Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of emails about Lilly Pulitzer maternity clothing. While Lilly technically doesn’t have a maternity line anymore (the company teamed up with A Pea in the Pod many years ago, but no more), there are a couple amazing products I swear by for preppy preggos: empire waist maxi dresses, specifically the Sloane (also available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Zappos)… and the Elsa (available at Zappos as well).
For sizing purposes, I’m 5’4. Pre-pregnancy, I was about 105 pounds and typically wore a size XS or 0 in Lilly Pulitzer, with the exception of the brand’s shifts. (00 for those.) At eight months pregnant, I’m 132 pounds and wear a size medium in Sloane dresses and a size small or medium in Elsa tops. (Some Elsas are larger than others. See below for details.)
The Empire Waist Maxi
Dresses: One (This is an “Isla” but fits so similarly to the Sloane!) // Two // Three (Not a Sloane, but awesome!) // Four
First, the empire waist maxi, specifically the Sloane: Its length and empire waist cut are actually flattering. The material is slightly gathered and cinched in the front, which makes for a lot of extra room for that growing tummy! It’s also incredibly comfortable. I feel like I’m wearing pajamas when I wear my Sloane dresses!
Sizing: Pre-pregnancy, I wore a size XS in Lilly Pulitzer maxis. (Here I am last July in one.) When the photos in this post were taken, I was just entering my 8th month of pregnancy. I’m wearing a size medium. As I’ve acquired quite a few Lilly Sloane maxis over the last few months, I highly suggest going two full sizes up. I wore them back when I was six months pregnant as well, and they fit perfectly! As they still have room in ’em, I anticipate that I’ll be able to wear ’em until the end, too.
The length of Sloane maxi dresses vary. The navy dress you see in most of these photos is relatively short. I’m 5’4, and can get away with wearing my Jacks! Others Sloanes I own, however, require three-inch wedges. Read the reviews for each Sloane dress!
Where to find Sloane and other Lilly maxis with empire waist cuts: Lilly, Nordstrom and Zappos. 6pm.com, Saks, Neiman Marcus and Saint Bernard all have great options, too. Oh! Don’t forget to check eBay.
The Elsa
Tops: One // Two // Three // Four
Second, the Elsa: Most flattering blouse I own, both for pregnancy and not. It’s pricey, but 100-percent worth it. I wear mine constantly, and have actually gotten rid of almost all other blouses in my closet because I only go for my Elsas.
Sizing: They run big! Pre-pregnancy, I wore a size XS in my Elsas. They were roomy, but still fell in a wonderfully flattering way. I’m in my eighth month of pregnancy right now, as I mentioned before, and can still get away with the XS tops… but I also have a couple of smalls and mediums, and I have to admit that they look a bit better! My best advice would be to go up at least one size, if not two.
Note: Solid tops tend to run slightly larger than patterned ones.
Where to find Elsa tops: My favorite places to find them are through Lilly itself, Nordstrom and Zappos. 6pm.com also tends to carry some older ones, and eBay has a lot of great options!
Other tops that work include the Bailey (sleeveless version of the Elsa), the Sarasota Tunic, and the Marco Island Tunic.
