Mitch here!
Remember Christmas shopping before the internet? My standard holiday shopping experience involved a single frantic trip to the mall on Christmas Eve. It resulted in terrible gifts, and I gave lots of jigsaw puzzles. (Sorry, Family.) But times have changed. I’m a freakin’ dad now and, despite the big guy up north doing his thing, pulling Christmas off this year kind of falls on my shoulders.
As you know, we’re one of those families plagued by about 1,000 miles between our various Christmas celebrations. Which means that until recently, I fancied Southwest’s overhead bins as the Larkin Family sleigh of sorts, cramming as many presents as I could into a couple of lowly suitcases. But not this year. This year, I’m straight-up shipping my gifts to their final destinations, gift-wrapped and all. It’s 2018 and I’m outsourcing that stuff. Amazon up in this!
Gifts for women
As you read this post, we exist in a beautiful time when all gifts will arrive in time if you order ’em now. (If you were so inclined, you could literally complete your Christmas shopping in the next hour if you’d just get off this blog. 😉) Soon, though, this beautiful time will pass, and there will be mass chaos and scrambling. Unless you use Amazon.
Amazon, which is now offering J.Crew Mercantile (!), guarantees Christmas Eve delivery if you just order your Prime-enabled gifts before 12/22. That’s ridiculous. Yes, there’s still a chance that I’ll be that dude in line at a store on Christmas Eve with a jigsaw puzzle gift in hand. But it’s far less likely because of Amazon. (It might be worth mentioning that Kelly gathers all her favorite Amazon items in her Amazon shop at amazon.com/shop/kellyinthecity. It’s updated all the time and linked on the sidebar of the blog. Just look for Noodle with a pile of Amazon boxes.)
I actually have the bulk of my shopping done, and I’m telling you: I went crazy on the J.Crew Mercantile selection on Amazon. (Right now, btw, select Mercantile men’s and women’s styles are 50 percent off–today only!) The images you see in this post are soup-to-nuts J.Crew Mercantile. Kelly’s wearing her favorite red wrap coat which I can only assume is an homage to Santa Clause. (Apparently it’s great for the baby bump, too.) And don’t worry: underneath is an adorable gingham flannel shirt to bring the outfit down to earth.
I’m wearing my absolute favorite checked flannel shirt, too. I wear it constantly. Looks like a nice dress shirt but it’s warm and cozy. It’s the shirt of the season. I’m also rocking this quilted vest which I picked out all on my own. It stands up to both Kelly’s standards and the Chicago winter, so I’m really proud of it. ;)

Amazon Echo Giveaway
In the spirit of wrapped presents and Kelly’s wrap coat, let’s wrap this post up and give away an Amazon Echo Look–part of Kelly’s “12 Days of Giveaways.” Echo Look was designed to up your fashion game via a combination of daily outfit photos and artificial intelligence. You put it in your room and take a picture of your outfit options, and it helps you decide what to wear. Echo Look has all the standard Echo/Alexa technology as well. To enter to win, simply leave your contact details below (or on today’s Instagram post for an additional entry) and don’t forget to confuse the robots with formatting like this kelly [at] gmail [dot] com. As always, you can say whatever you want in the comment section as long as it’s relatively PG and friendly, but I personally enjoy really random stuff. ;) A random winner will be selected and announced on Monday.
Good luck and happy shopping!
Mitch. OUT!

I feel sad for the Amazon and postal employees who will undoubtedly have to work a lot of overtime to get the Prime packages delivered by Christmas Eve.

Can you provide the link for the OTK boots Kelly is wearing? Laura (at) cmsinter (dot) net
Umm I would LOVE to win the Echo Look! So little fact.. I work in information technology and in college I wanted my senior project to be a modernized version of Cher’s (from Clueless) closet outfit picker. My boring professor was not in agreement and instead I had to create a meeting scheduler. (Boring!) I mean it’s all about priorities. You have to dress the part if you want to succeed in your meetings.. am I right!? Anyway, sounds like someone at Amazon has created my dream project so I would love to get my hands on it! Ps – I hear that JCrew merchantile is maybe going away?? Hope not!

So lets talk about how on Wednesday there was no mail due to the Federal Holiday. That’s fine – no problem. And yet….the postal worker came to my house twice to deliver packages. He had to get out of the truck and bring things to my porch twice (our post office does a package only run in the am and then mail & packages in the afternoon)! But would he take the bills I had in my mailbox (that he walked past twice)? Nope. It’s a federal holiday. These things make me crazy!

Can’t go wrong with Amazon and I love J. Crew. I wonder if the “Mercantile” brand quality is equivalent to regular J. Crew or more like Factory

There was a girl in high school that only wore J Crew so I refused to set foot in the stores/on their website until like a month ago. Silly me just decided that it was only for snobby rich skinny girls who married guys with 4 names and a number on the end (like William Henry Tolouse Green III) and lived in perfect houses with perfect golden retrievers and whose mom only wore pearls & Chanel suits and who were just a living stereotype of a wealthy blue blood family. Being plus sized and of a more middle class income level I just rolled my eyes whenever I passed one. Then I went on the J Crew Factory website (now that I’m in my 30’s I thought it was time I developed a personal style & curated wardrobe so I was looking for some new options) and OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Be on the lookout for a wedding invitation from me and William Henry Tolouse Green III and our 2 perfect goldens.
(totally kidding, I’m single af which is perfectly fine with me and my old wonky rescue beagle haha)
