Preppy Home Gift Guide

Preppy Holiday Home Gift Guide

Aera / Ginger Jar Ornaments / Plaid Throw / Nutcrackers (We add one a year! It’s a special holiday tradition for the Larkins.) / Wrapping Paper

Mitch here!

Listen: you’re not alone if you’re stressing over finding the perfect holiday gifts for everyone on your list. It’s difficult! When Kelly and I get stuck, though, we fall back on gifts for the home. You don’t have to worry about sizing, which takes a lot of the pressure off, and it’s usually stuff that the person will pull out holiday after holiday. Our personal favorite seasonal decor is that which has been given to us over the years. It makes us remember specific Christmases and think of family and friends!

Anyway, today, Kelly and I are sharing some of our top holiday gifts for the home!

Pregnancy Update + My Battle with Morning Sickness

pregnancy update

Cashmere Sweater: This has been my go-to pregnancy sweater! I went two sizes up in it and it’s perfect. It’s thick enough that it hides lines. And it’s a little “swingy” with the small slide slit, making it look like it’s just a slightly oversized sweater. LOVE it, and can’t recommend it more, whether you’re pregnant or not! It’s such a steal, too! $88 for cashmere? I’ll take it! / Sparkly Necklace (Sold out, but I adore this one!) / Leggings (Not maternity. Just ordered this pair from Old Navy and this pair from Gap, though.)

Hi! Okay. The last time I really talked about my pregnancy was when I announced the news almost three weeks ago. So here’s a big personal update!

Mitch here!

Remember Christmas shopping before the internet? My standard holiday shopping experience involved a single frantic trip to the mall on Christmas Eve. It resulted in terrible gifts, and I gave lots of jigsaw puzzles. (Sorry, Family.) But times have changed. I’m a freakin’ dad now and, despite the big guy up north doing his thing, pulling Christmas off this year kind of falls on my shoulders.

A Christmassy Outing Downtown

Ralph Lauren Store in Chicago

Kelly’s Outfit:  Ralph Lauren Cable-Knit Sweater (This one looks super similar and is more affordable, and this one is my absolute favorite! Wear it all the time!), Blazer (Similar here) and Cashmere Gloves c/oStuart Weitzman Boots (But try this Steve Madden pair. Love them, and that low heel which makes ’em suitable for both everyday and “going out” wear. Looking for brown? DEFINITELY get this pairHere’s another option!) / Halogen Seamed Leggings (I just fold over the waistband for the bump. Works like a charm, and they don’t fall down. If they’re sold out, I also love this Spanx pair.) / Sparkly Necklace (Makes for a great gift! Also love this one and this one.) / Mitch’s Outfit: Ralph Lauren American Flag Sweater and Duffle Coat c/o

Hello!

Today, I just want to give myself a pat on the back, haha. Because this blog has not died. Yes, I’d envisioned something different for Kelly in the City during the 2018 holiday season. But I think we’re all so wired to feel that we’re only doing a good job if we’re constantly improving and growing and doing something extraordinary–when that isn’t the case. Sometimes treading water is just as difficult, if not more. It really just depends on what we have going on in the background. So today, I’m proud… because I’m treading water. :)

Anyone else in the same boat? (Or out of the boat, I should say. 😂) If so, I’m proud of you, too!

5 Tips for Creating a Festive Fireplace

Tips for Creating a Festive Fireplace

Mitch here!

I’m posting more frequently these days so that Kelly can rest and devote her energy to growing a human. Anything you’d like me to cover or write about? Let me know!

Anyway, I’ve made it clear that I’m going Christmas crazy this year. Maybe all this plaid has infected my brain stem. To prepare, I’ve transitioned to a mostly cookie diet. I’m also perfecting my Burl Ives impression and I’ve preemptively gained 10 pounds to make my Santa outfit seem more convincing.
