Mitch here!
A quick note before we start: Kelly’s favorite jeans are part of the Shopbop Sale, which ends today. (Here’s the white pair, which she loves, too.) The leopard clutch is also included, as is the navy gingham, brown and pink ones.
Obviously, I think my wife dresses beautifully. But I freely admit that I have no idea why her outfits “work.” Because when you pick them apart, they can be pretty freakin’ weird. ;) And while I regularly photograph these outfits and remark on how beautiful Kelly looks, I usually just forget about ’em and go about my day after we’re done shooting. Why has it taken me four years to actually analyze this stuff?!
(Probably because I have zero interest in fashion. Ever read this post?)
Kelly has been super busy with launching and tweaking her new (much faster) site over the last few days, and she’s currently flying to Charleston to see her college friends and celebrate something big with them. So guess what’s happening?
I, Mitch Larkin, am going to write an outfit post.
Bah! Prepare yourselves…
Gingham Shirt
Kelly has so much gingham in our house that I lose sight of her when she’s wearing it. We have gingham pillows, gingham sheets, gingham table cloths and gingham rugs. Aside from its chameleon camouflage, gingham is also usually navy and white, which I’ve learned are the two greatest colors in the history of the world. (Is white a color? Just Googled it. It’s actually all colors. Hmmm…) Kelly wears full-body gingham pajamas to bed, she wears gingham during the day, and she wears gingham when we go out. She ginghams up, down, left and right. Just look at how happy she is in her gingham. Gingerly hamming it up for the gingham, my wife. Gingham!
Apparently, this sweater, this top, these pajamas, this bathing suit, and this dress are at the top of Kelly’s gingham wish list.
Ruffled Sweater
This sweater looks like its elastic has snapped or something. Do we think Kelly knows that there’s something wrong with it? Like, do you see how it’s kind of off-centered? Is it supposed to be like that? Isn’t symmetry a thing in fashion? Well, whatever. She’s in Charleston, so we’ll just keep this to ourselves.
Luckily, the sweater is sold out. ;) But Kelly also loves this one, which is a little less lopsided.
Over-the-Knee-Boots
I know three things about these boots:
- They cost more than my first car.
- They’re extremely fragile. Knee-high navy suede? A stiff breeze could land them in the cobbler. I’ve been scolded for even thinking about them. But with Kelly out of town, I’m wearing them while I write this post.
- They’re not really boots. They’re boots and pants all in one, and I support that. If it were up to me, we’d all be walking around in chest-high velvet waders.
Looking for more affordable over-the-knee boots? I’ll never, ever be able to help you, but Kelly gives these the thumbs up.
Leopard clutch
As a guy who’s spent a lot of time in Africa (just look), I kind of agree that leopard print is cool. But clutches are useless. You want to know what happens when Kelly opts for a clutch instead of a tote bag? I carry the contents of her tote bag in my pockets.
And while I’m on this subject, I need to share this somewhat related story: Kelly recently took my ID, lost it, unknowingly found it, mistook it as her own, and gave it to the receptionist at the pediatrician’s office thinking it was hers. That’s how I finally got my ID back.
But now I’m realizing that this is a little unfair, because I have lost my wallet not once but twice while at Taco Bell. And Kelly was not involved. So maybe it’s a family thing.
Kelly has nothing to say about the clutch because I forgot to ask her about it. Moving on…
In conclusion
This post makes no sense, and I’ll never understand fashion. But you sure do look cute, Kelly.
Mitch. Out!
