Sam Edelman Booties (Also obsessed with these loafers, which look just like the designer version which I happened to feature yesterday.) / Nordstrom Velvet Leggings (Also have these. SO GOOD!) / Burberry Snood (Technically for kids, but it totally fits adults. It’s so much more affordable than the original scarf!) / Burberry Quilted Jacket (Burberry also just came out with a new version of the jacket. It’s supposed to be a little warmer. Hmmmm! Also love this super affordable peacoat, which I wear all the time on the blog! Comes in black, too.) / Halogen Cashmere Sweater (See all Halogen sweaters here! Love this one, which is finally back in stock.) / $48 Leather Tote
I’ve been trying to wear more black this year. While I obviously love navy, black is a little dressier and can easily bring me from day to night. So many of my friends’ closets here in Chicago consist of black, white and camel, and that’s about it… and I love the simplicity of that. City closets are teeny, after all!
If you read yesterday’s post or this post on my favorite booties, you probably know how much I adore Sam Edelman shoes. Every pair I’ve ever owned has been insanely comfortable, and that’s huge for a girl whose feet regularly give her trouble. In these photos, I’m wearing the Petty Chelsea booties, which are my all-time favorite booties. Again, super comfortable, and they have a bit of a heel, which make my outfits feel a little fancier. I know I’ve mentioned this on the blog before, but I’ve walked miles around the city in these booties without discomfort!
There are so many other pairs of Sam Edelman shoes that I’m obsessed with right now, though. (See above.) These horse bit loafers look just like the designer pair, and their flexible backs make for zero break-in time, so they’re the frontrunner. (They come in leopard, too.) I wear these D’Orsay pumps VERY often (I have ’em in pink and leopard, but love the nude pair!), and these over-the-knee black boots are the spitting image of the $800 pair but are a fraction of the cost. Finally, these sparkly pumps look perfect for the holidays, and these classy rain boots are such a steal. Oh! One last pair, actually: great everyday brown leather ballet flats. And all of these shoes can be found at Nordstrom, which clearly my favorite retailer. As I always say, best customer service I’ve ever interacted with. Shipping and returns are free, too, which makes for worry-free shopping. And the inventory? Always the best. :)
A few additional quick notes about what I’m wearing:
- Nordstrom velvet leggings: They’re not as thick as my pair from Commando, which I’m also crazy about. (They’re better, actually.) But the Nordstrom pair is half the price, and they’re shorter, which I like when I’m wearing ankle booties. Guys, I’ve tried SO many pairs of velvet skinny jeans and leggings on this year, and these two pairs are, without a doubt, the best!
- Burberry snood: Technically, it’s for children. But it totally fits adults, too… and it’s half the price of the original Burberry scarf. With the snood, you get a super similar look (arguably better?!), and it stays in place all the time. You also get to say the word “snood.” (Any other super old girls out there who played too much Snood in their college dormitories?!)
- Burberry quilted jacket: Another classic that I’ll never grow tired of. (I’d recommend sizing up, btw. I wear a size small in it.) Oh! This is the newer version of the jacket, which is supposed to be a little warmer.
- Halogen cashmere sweater: Obsessed with Halogen sweaters. The white sweater is no longer available, but I have the camel one as well, and I get so much use out of it. This tie-front one is back in stock, too!
- $48 tote: This thing is awesome. Yes, I have a couple of designer bags that are my go-to totes. But this one is what I grab when I have a LOT to carry around all day. I shove it under the baby stroller without worrying about what’s going to happen to it, and guess what? It’s still in perfect condition, even after Emma dragged it down the sidewalk a couple of times. (Girlfriend loves my bags.) Really: I couldn’t recommend it more!
In other news, my mom is coming tomorrow, and my dad arrives on Monday! I’m excited for an awesome week in the city with them. Any recommendations on fun things to do in Chicago with your parents? We’re going to the tree lighting at the Waldorf Astoria, but that’s about it at this point. I want to get some fun family-friendly stuff on the calendar, so all suggestions are welcomed. :)
Many thanks, guys!

In collaboration with Nordstrom, but all opinions are my own. As always, thank you so much for supporting the partnerships that keep Kelly in the City up and running! I appreciate you so, so much.
