Today, I’m teaming up with Shopbop and Social Root to feature a new pair of sunglasses from Wildfox. (And no, I’m not sure I’ve ever switched up my eyewear on the blog, so this is big, haha.) Social Root is this cool new project that helps companies find bloggers who are influential in specific segments like sunglasses, denim and bags. I’m not sure how I was identified as a “digital influencer”–perhaps because I wear the same pair in nearly every post? ;)–but I’m so glad I was found! Because I had a blast with this post. What do you think about my new “Catfarer” shades?! If you haven’t hear of Wildfox yet, it’s an LA-based brand that came about in 2007. You can see the rest of the eyewear here, and how cute is this striped sweatshirt?!

But back to life!
My apologies for the radio silence this morning, but things have been pretty rough over here in blogland. Did I just say that? Sorry. ;)
Up until yesterday, Kelly in the City was apparently hosted some ancient shared server, which I now understand is why my site went down from time to time. It’s been a confusing and frustrating 24 hours, but a big part of me is super proud that I now have a better understanding of web hosting, DNS, migrating content over to new platforms, and why it’s so important to back up your site. I know that everything here looks the same, but believe me when I say it was one big disaster for a while. ;)
I owe one particular GoDaddy employee a big thank you for essentially giving me a crash course on all the technical stuff. A couple of years ago, I knew quite literally nothing about blogging or how to maintain a website… and I really can’t get over how much I’ve learned since then. And it’s all because of friends (Shawn! Holler!), other bloggers (too many to name!), and a kind employee at GoDaddy. Of course, I have a long way to go, and I’ll probably never be an expert. But gaining new skills in any field is empowering, so today, I’m reveling in it!
Oh–and as I’ve mentioned before, I’m a big believer in the concept of “Pay it Forward.” So if you have a question or have been stumped about something blog-related for some time, please reach out. I can’t promise I’ll have the answer, but I’d love to help in any way possible!

This Side of Paradise
Hi Kate!
I think the biggest thing for me was posting on a regular basis, and having consistent posting times. In the beginning, I posted whenever I felt like it. (It was, after all, a *personal* style blog, hehe.) But once I started posting four to five times a week, and had my posts go up around midnight so that my readers knew when to expect my content), I saw gains. :)
I also think putting an emphasis on photography and writing is important. I tried to learn one new thing about photography, for example, every week… and now I’m a lot more confident in that department! Peer editors are great, too. I’ve used my husband, mother, friends, coworkers–anyone who will read it! A lot of times, they’ve caught some pretty blaring mistakes!
Most importantly, blog for yourself, and don’t compare yourself to others. Your personal style, take on life, and approach to blogging is what sets you apart from others, and it’s something to be proud of! :)
If you have more specific questions, please email me! I’d love to chat! :) xoxo!
This is SO helpful- thanks a million!
I love this pink blazer! It looks like it’s a lovely tweed texture, and such a fun colour. Those heels are perfect too. Really nice height!

Hi Liz! They’re GREAT! It’s so hard to find comfy, cute kitten heels. These are a must!
So fun! Love the bright pink jacket. Girl, this blogging adventure has had me in tears more than once with all the technical stuff I’ve run into! There is nothing more frustrating and rewarding than figuring it all out! Keep it up! xo

McKenna,
Thank you so much for weighing in! It can be pretty frustrating when you don’t know how to fix something that’s important to you! You’re right… blogging is certainly an adventure… and it’s so rewarding to acquire new skills! :)
xoxo! Thanks, girl!
cutie! I love the cat glasses!
I really like that you believe in “paying it forward.” It’s especially important in “blogland” haha. I’m always reaching out to tell people if something isn’t working right, in hopes that they will do the same for me if I don’t catch it on my own! By the way, I realllly like those shades :)

Glad you got all the technical stuff worked out Kelly, I feel like I’m constantly learning new things about the blogging/online website world… I wish someone would teach a course!
