J.Crew Factory Booties / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.) / Gingham Shirt (I also have the J.Crew version and love it!) / $48 Faux Leather Tote / Burberry Scarf / J.Crew Cocoon Coat (Try J.Crew Factory’s version, too!)
Aaaaand I’m back with another “What I Wore” post! Since Mitch and I were working on the first phase (Clothing) of our KonMari Challenge for so long and Chicago’s currently experiencing an arctic blast, my bump-friendly favorites have been on repeat. And while my recent outfits aren’t exactly inspirational, they sure have been making me happy! I’d forgotten how enjoyable getting dressed in the morning can be… but it’s now fun again, thanks to the clean-out.
Okay! So here’s what I’ve been wearing lately, along with some tidbits about those favorite pieces.
What I Wore, 1/24:
Sperry Seaport Loafer (Also obviously love Madewell’s version, though I will say that Sperry’s is comfier.) / J.Crew Boatneck Tee (Also available here.) / Seamed Leggings / Coach Court Bag (HAVE YOU SEEN THAT THE WILLIS IS NOW AVAILABLE?! Coach has it in black, brown and yellow… and Nordstrom has it in black and yellow.)
I clearly was sporting this long before the baby bump showed up, but I found it on my phone recently and kind of loved it. ;) And I thought I’d highlight the Sperry Seaport Loafers, since they’re my most-loved shoe ever! (Besides my Rothy’s.)
I don’t know about you guys, but nearly every pair of loafers I ever owned–up until the Seaports–took a very long time to break in. (With the exception of one hot pink pair, but those wore out a while ago, and weren’t exactly the most versatile.) Anyway, the Seaports require zero break-in time, and have this AMAZING cushioning inside ’em. The leather is super soft so you don’t need to worry about blisters or rubbing, and they only get softer with time. I have them in a bunch of different colors, but obviously the brown is the classic.
In terms of sizing, I normally wear a size 7.5 in flats, and I took these in a 7.5. TTS!
Canada Goose Shelburne Parka c/o (Nordstrom still has some Canada Goose parkas in stock!) / J.Crew Factory Booties / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.) / Burberry Scarf / J.Crew Pom Hat / Emma’s Canada Goose Parka c/o / Tortoise iPhone Case
Taken during a recent snowstorm. Unfortunately, most Canada Goose parkas are sold out at the moment, which *always* happens in January. But Nordstrom still has some in stock.
Sizing: I wouldn’t say that Canada Goose runs small, per se, but the parkas are meant to be “close fitting,” as that helps retain body warmth. I ordered an XS in the Shelburne that my parents gave me for my birthday a few years ago… and while that does fit, I much prefer the size Small, which Canada Goose gave me this year for a project we were doing together. And not just because I’m pregnant! It’s just comfier in the shoulders. Just FYI — I think it really depends on how you like your jackets to fit!
Rothy’s Flats / Gap Soft Wear Skinny Jeans (Favorite non-maternity pair and favorite maternity version, which I’m wearing!) / Marble Coffee Table (It now comes in bronze!) / Rug / Emma’s Dollhouse (Have you seen the farmhouse?!) / Kids’ Table and Chairs c/o / Molly Hatch Mug (Find more at Anthropolgie. The Sloth is hilarious. eBay has the Pineapple.)
Here, I thought I would point out our marble coffee table, which has been such a good investment. I just found out that it now comes in bronze, and I’m totally in love with that one, too. (Whenever we move, I’ll likely get that if we have a more formal living room to furnish. LOVE!) But yeah: I’m obsessed with it, and can’t believe how well it’s held up over the years considering the toddler who lives with us as well as the fact that it’s in such a high-use room. No major scratches–or any scratches that are even visible, really… and no stains. (And we’ve spilled a LOT of wine on it.) If you’re considering it, Mitch and I both highly recommend it.
Canada Goose Shelburne Parka c/o (Nordstrom still has some Canada Goose parkas in stock!) / Sorel Slimpack Boots c/o (Also available here and here.) / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.) / Burberry Scarf / J.Crew Pom Hat / Burberry Crossbody / Canada Goose Mittens c/o (They run small. Size up!)
My in-laws had Emma for the weekend, so we went to the new Greek restaurant, Avli, in Lincoln Park. SO GOOD! The food was fantastic, the service was phenomenal (best bartender ever), and the vibe was cool yet cozy. You have to go!
Here, I’ll note that my Sorel Slimpack Boots are back in stock here, here and here. They’re the best; just so hard to track down. But I love them because they’re snow boots but don’t really look like it! More like riding boots, I’d say? They’re super warm and comfy, too. I’d recommend going up a half size.
Couldn’t live without these guys, especially this time of the year in Chicago. Mine are very old, but I ScotchGuarded them and they really haven’t aged because of that! They hold up great.
J.Crew Factory Sweater Blazer (J.Crew also carries this version which I have and adore! Just make sure to size down because it runs HUGE. Love the red, which is on sale.) / Booties / Gingham Shirt (I also have the J.Crew version and love it!) / Pearl Necklace (J.Crew’s version is also lovely!)
This was taken at that J.Crew Factory event I hosted! It was SO MUCH FUN. I’m get nervous about hosting events, because I always assume that no one is going to show up and it’ll be crazy embarrassing. ;) This has happened in the past, btw, haha. It was mortifying. But I was super touched by how many readers braved the snowstorm to come, and I loved meeting everyone. Thank you so much, guys! And shoutout to the adorable Jaime, pictured above. <3
A note about the boots: Highly recommend! I couldn’t believe how comfortable they were when I wore them that first day… and they’re really affordable. I also feel like they’re that timeless brown leather bootie that every preppy girl’s closet should have. Agree?! They run TTS, btw.
Rothy’s Mocha Leopard Loafers (Love these, too!) / Gap Soft Wear Skinny Jeans (Favorite non-maternity pair and favorite maternity version, which I’m wearing!) / Cozy White Sweater / Tortoise Phone Case
Let’s talk about these Rothy’s Mocha Leopard Loafers for a minute. (They come in a regular leopard print, too.) I know I talk about Rothy’s all the time, but they’re truly the best. I wear mine so often that I want to replace my old black and red flats with a Rothy’s pointed flats in black and red… though I’m trying to resist!
The obsession level is real, though. I mean, the shoes are machine-washable. Crazy! They’re also made out of recycled water bottles, and the high-quality knit material guarantees ultimate comfort, even if you have strangely shaped feet. ;) They run totally TTS.
White House Black Market Long Wool Vest (It’s LONG gone, but I really like this one and this one from eBay. So amazingly affordable!) / Pearl Necklace (J.Crew’s version is also lovely!) / Long Black Sweater
Taken during our date night! During our KonMari clean-out, I rediscovered this pearl necklace, which I’ve had for almost a decade now! (J.Crew’s version is also lovely; just bigger!) I’ve been wearing it a lot. I want to get back into wearing jewelry every once in a while!
Best Striped Button-Down I’ve Ever Owned (It’s wrinkle-resistant so PERFECT for travel! Zappos and Amazon carry it, too.) / Sperry Seaport Loafer (Also obviously love Madewell’s version, though I will say that Sperry’s is comfier.) / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.) / Tortoise Phone Case / Woven Tote with Navy Straps
BEST SHIRT EVER. Zappos and Amazon carry it, too. But you need it. It’s wrinkle-resistant so it’s the perfect travel shirt, and it looks amazing with tight skinny jeans. I love that it’s made of a microfiber material because it’ll keep you cool on vacation, too. I would say that it runs TTS. I’m wearing a medium here to accomodate the bump, and if I weren’t pregnant, I’d probably go with a size small or XS (only if I wanted to wear it under a blazer).
Favorite Striped Maternity Tee (J.Crew Boatneck Tee is my favorite non-maternity one. Also available here.) / Rothy’s Pointed Flats / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.) / Patagonia Vest / Tortoise Phone Case
My Patagonia vest made the cut the KonMari clean-out! I reach for this all the time in the morning and night when the house is a little chillier. I love how it looks paired with stripes! It runs small; I would recommend going one size up.
Peplum Herringbone Blazer (Can be worn as a top, but I wear it as a little jacket/blazer!) / Gap Soft Wear Skinny Jeans (Favorite non-maternity pair and favorite maternity version, which I’m wearing!) / Cozy White Sweater / Tortoise Phone Case / Gucci Loafers (Definitely an investment, but insanely comfortable. But the Sam Edelman version looks exactly the same and are super comfy, too. Unless you have your heart set on Guccis, I would say that the Sam Edelmans are the better purchase. They also come in leopard, which is on sale!) / Goyard Tote
This little peplum jacket is everything. I LOVE the herringbone print, and how soft and cozy the blazer is in general. I think it’s actually meant to be worn as a top? Maybe? (The model wears it both ways.) But I much prefer it as a jacket. I wore it out last week and received so many compliments, even with the bump!
Noodle Socks / Gap Soft Wear Skinny Jeans (Favorite non-maternity pair and favorite maternity version, which I’m wearing!)
NOODLE SOCKS! Mitch and I recently discovered Little Beans, which is an indoor cafe, restaurant and playground in our hood. It’s fabulous, and we’ve been going a lot. It’s going to get us through the winter! And yeah: you need these socks, and you need to call them your “Noodle Socks.”
Btw: This is a very personal post I wrote about Noodle, and it explains why we almost gave her up once. :( I’m so glad we didn’t, but I’m definitely a little nervous about how it’s going to go when Baby #2 comes along. Maybe we should find a temporary home for her for a month? (Only a month.) I don’t know. So hard, but I want to do what’s right for everyone.
White House Black Market Long Wool Vest (It’s LONG gone, but I really like this one and this one from eBay. So amazingly affordable!) / Pearl Necklace (J.Crew’s version is also lovely!) / Long Black Sweater / Sorel Slimpack Boots c/o (Also available here and here.) / Burberry Crossbody / Tortoise Phone Case / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.)
During the challenge, I rediscovered this White House Black Market Long Wool Vest, and now it’s back on regular rotation. I originally acquired it through a collaboration with the brand a few years ago, but it’s been a favorite for so long. I just LOVE how it makes an otherwise casual outfit look polished. It’s also super flattering when pregnant. Of course, it sold out a long time ago, but I really like this one and this one from eBay. So amazingly affordable! (And if anyone’s a size 8, I found my exact vest on eBay!)
Woven Mules / Gap Soft Wear Skinny Jeans (Favorite non-maternity pair and favorite maternity version, which I’m wearing!) / Pottery Barn Rug
Aren’t these mules so cute?! They’re super soft. I ordered them in my usual size (7.5) and they were a little too small, so I’m sending them back… but I think I’ll probably re-order in a size 8 since they’re so comfy!
Everlane Booties (Also love the Everlane Day Boot!) / Similar Fair Isle Socks / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.)
I’m DONE with not wearing socks with booties. It’s just too darn cold, even with those no-show socks. Happy to report, though, that apparently it’s totally fine to wear socks with boots now. I usually wear black dress socks, but I’m kind of loving the look of fair isle socks poking out. Thoughts?!
Burberry Scarf / Chenille Sweater / Burberry Tote / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.) / Tory Burch Flats / Pottery Barn Rug / Tortoise Phone Case
Burberry tote back in stock! I think I recently told this story on the blog, but I totally wrecked this bag a few months ago when I Scotchguarded it. I thought I got all of it off the straps, but apparently didn’t, and there were white splotches all over it that I couldn’t for the life of me remove. Honestly, I was so bummed… but I brought it to the cobbler on Armitage in Lincoln Park, and they refinished the leather for me for only $40! It looks perfect!
Anyway, I’m obsessed with the bag. It’s timeless, and definitely something I’ll have forever… and it’s REVERSIBLE! (Cute Christmas tartan on the inside.) It’s also stain-resistant, haha, so I didn’t need to Scotchguard it in the first place.
Old J.Crew Peacoat (My exact one is the Majesty, but there are a ton of brand new ones still available. Looking for a cute pink coat that’s in stock?! Try this one! OBSESSED, and it’s on sale!) / Mark & Graham Terminal One Suitcase / Sorel Slimpack Boots c/o (Also available here and here.) / Gap Soft Wear Skinny Jeans (Favorite non-maternity pair and favorite maternity version, which I’m wearing!)
OFF TO FLORIDA! Really excited. ;)
A note on these jeans, though: They’re Gap’s Soft Wear Skinny Jeans, and I can’t get over how soft they are. I mean, yes, haha… “soft” is in their name. But they’re REALLY soft! They feel like $250 jeans. I would definitely try ’em. They come in a bunch of different washes, but this is my favorite non-maternity pair and this is my favorite maternity version, which I’m wearing here. TTS.
White House Black Market Long Wool Vest (It’s LONG gone, but I really like this one and this one from eBay. So amazingly affordable!) / Sperry Seaport Loafer (Also obviously love Madewell’s version, though I will say that Sperry’s is comfier.) / Pearl Necklace (J.Crew’s version is also lovely!) / Tortoise Phone Case / Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (My favorite maternity version here.) / Favorite Striped Maternity Tee (J.Crew Boatneck Tee is my favorite non-maternity one. Also available here.)
Lastly, let’s talk about the tortoise iPhone case–because I get a lot of questions about it! I ordered it on Amazon when I first got my phone because there were zero cute ones available, and it’s held up incredibly well. I drop my phone ALL the time, and Emma does unspeakable things to it. Zero cracks, which is nothing short of amazing. Plus, a cute tortoise case is hard to find!
Okay. That’s it. Byeeee!
