When I first moved to New York, I realized very quickly that commuting to work in heels was a no-go. Even if I took the subway, there were a good four avenues and 10 blocks (some of which were cobblestone) that I needed to navigate in order to get there and back. One attempt in pumps, and it took my feet a solid month to recover. (Ouch!)
Traditional sneakers were an option, but I was so excited about being a New York City Girl, and really wanted to look nice. A friend recommended TOMS: ridiculously comfortable, lightweight and cute shoes for a cause. (When you purchase a TOMS product, the company donates a pair of shoes to a child in need. More than 50,000 pairs of shoes have been donated!)
My first pair of TOMS were a pair of the Light Gray Canvas Classics, and they lasted me years. They were my best buds on my morning and afternoon walks, and they accompanied me all over the city on the weekends. Truly, they changed life in the city for me. They were always tucked into my tote! Recently, TOMS sent me this navy pair, and I’m totally smitten. Not only were they great in Ocean City, but I’ve been wearing them all over Chicago. Hello, Perfect Pregnancy/New Mom Shoes! (Also: how adorable is this gingham pair? They’re definitely in my future…)
But back to the point of TOMS, which is doing good. On Tuesday, May 10th, the company is inviting supporters to take part in its “One Day #withoutshoes” campaign, to help provide 100,000 pairs of new shoes to children in 10 countries around the world. For every image of TOMS shoes or bare feet posted to Instagram with the hashtag “#withoutshoes” on May 10th, TOMS will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need.
Be on the lookout for my Instagram on May 10th, and I’ll be on the lookout for yours. I can’t wait to see how many children we’re able to reach. :) All it takes is one little social post!
Remember to mark your calendars! For every image of TOMS shoes or bare feet posted to Instagram with the hashtag “#withoutshoes” on May 10th, TOMS will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need.
