I’m a firm believer in the idea that we shouldn’t get into the habit of saving things for special occasions.

Sure, there are some exceptions to this. That bottle of wine you bought when your kid was born that you intend on toasting to when he one day graduates from college or does something else momentous? Yeah, save that. Or the birthday cake you made yesterday for your mom’s birthday party tonight? For heaven’s sake, just wait a few more hours. Or the Christmas presents you bought for err–Christmas? Wait!

Jokes.

Do you agree, though? I don’t know. I’ve been of this mindset for a long time, but over the last few years, I’ve become pretty gung-ho about it. Because I think I’ve realized that it’ll be a long, long time until our days aren’t messy. And I like that. But just because it’ll likely be a decade or two until things aren’t continuously sticky–why is everything so sticky ALL THE TIME?! 😂–doesn’t mean I’m going to pack away the good stuff until then. (Frankly, almost every time I have done that, I’ve forgotten I owned the thing in the first place, only to rediscover it years later while packing for a move.) I’m going to use the favorite dishes, put out the nice throw pillows, and wear the fancy perfume with my dirt-streaked weekend mom outfit. And enjoy it!

Cartier Carat Perfume

Recently, Bloomingdale’s sent me Cartier’s new scent, Carat. I’ll be honest and say that after having opened it and fallen in love with it, my first inclination was to store it away in my bathroom and save it for special occasions. But I resisted. ;) And it now sits prominently on my bathroom countertop, with a few other products I use daily. And can I tell you? Even on days when I feel like a complete mess with my undone hair and wrinkled tee, it makes me feel a little fancy.

And that’s nice.

Anyway, I can’t recommend it more. First, it’s carried at Bloomingdale’s, which holds a special place in my heart as I used to live on 60th Street in New York, a few avenues away from the flagship store… and because my cousin, Paige, works there now. :)

Second, Cartier Eau de Parfum Carat is meant to smell like tulips (among other things), which I adore–and it’s light yet not summery. I also love that the product was created to celebrate women’s “inner light” as well as what makes them different, “inside and out,” and how they grow stronger when they come together. That’s a message I can get behind!

Finally, I’m a big fan of the bottle. Seems so silly, but since my perfume always sits on my countertop, I appreciate a well-designed product! Scroll down to see more of it, along with favorite photos I snapped yesterday on our annual fall trip to the North Shore.

Happy fall, Friends!

xx
