Okay, maybe the title of this post is a little misleading, as there are a lot of reasons I enjoy blogging so much. But one of my absolute favorite parts? Taking photos–particularly photos by the water and photos during snowstorms. In the case of beach pics, I love how subjects stand out against the blue ocean and sky. With snow photos, I love how colors really pop, and how the camera seemingly captures a moment of pure magic as tiny flakes are frozen in time.
So while yes, yesterday was absolutely freezing, I couldn’t help but throw off my coat for two minutes to snap these pics. Or, rather, set up the photos. Can I tell you how heartbreaking it is for me that I can’t take my own blog photos? I desperately wish there was somehow I could step out of my body for a couple of minutes every day so I could be behind the lens… but I’m lucky enough to get to photograph my friends on a regular basis, and have an amazing husband and friends who don’t mind snapping away. Really, though: doesn’t Mitch have a great eye?!
Granted, I probably shouldn’t have worn white jeans, as they completely disappear into the background. But all my other pants are in the wash, so… c’est la vie. Winter white to the extreme!
Disclaimer: Hunter Boots are great for a quick walk around the block with the dog when it’s snowing, but they’re not true winter boots. (My toes go numb if I’m in them for longer than 15 or 20 minutes in freezing temps.) Please read my Guide to Buying Hunter Boots for more info!
Anyway, Mitch and I had a very grown-up Valentine’s Day yesterday, hence the casual t-shirt and vest look. ;) We spent the majority of it at Home Depot, buying paint, caulk and wall anchors… and browsing bathroom cabinetry, shower doors and vanities. The rest of the day was spent measuring, caulking, painting, planning and making scary purchases. (Do you guys like it?! It seriously took us months to find a pretty vanity that wasn’t outrageously priced. We had a 15 percent off coupon for this one, though, so it seemed like a no-brainer.)
The previous night, however, we did go out for a nice dinner, which was a bit more “Valentinesy.” We didn’t end up making it to the restaurant we’d planned on–much too cold to walk that far!–but the second restaurant had a cheesy 90s-style love mix playing, so we had a lot of fun with that. ;) We also watched “The Martian” at home, which we’d both never seen. (Ah-maz-ing. A must-see, for sure.)
Mitch is off today, so we’re continuing with our huge list of projects. Up today: Hanging shelves in the backroom for laundry, installing anchors for a wall mirror and large frames, and fixing a broken toilet paper dispenser. Ah, homeownership…
