Guys, yesterday’s day off was a huge success! In the morning, we had our furniture delivered. (Eeee! We purchased these nightstands and this dresser for Mitch. Mine is sadly backordered.) After that, we headed downtown for our OB appointment, where I was forced to consume a really gross orange drink so I could be tested for “gestational diabetes.” (Apparently this is a routine procedure at the end of the second trimester, but yikes! Cross your fingers for me.) We also got to hear the baby’s heartbeat, which always makes us happy… though I’m pretty sure Baby Larkin is going to be a karate superstar when he or she grows up, because those kicks are constant. After that, we grabbed lunch at Athenian Room, my favorite Greek restaurant in Chicago, visited New Elephant Resale Shop, snapped these pics, and started the master bedroom move-in.
Phew. Even on our days off, we’re running around like crazy. But so much more fun when we’re running around like crazy together. :)
Switching topics for a moment, though.
Running a style blog has proven to be quite difficult during my second trimester. I’ve grown out of most of my clothing at this point–even the stuff that was oversized–and my feet are unwilling to put up with what I used to put ’em through. Which is why you’ve been seeing so much of the striped tees and red jacket these days. Besides my Elsa tops and Lilly maxi dresses, they’re the only things that still fit!
However, I recently teamed up with my friends at Zappos to find a pair of cute shoes that are both comfy and stylish. So I am sporting a new pair of sandals today: they’re the Cindie by Børn, and they’ve been a godsend lately. They feature a cushy footbed, soft full-grain leather straps, and chunky heel that evenly distributes all the extra weight I’m carrying around these days. ;)
I actually ordered them for last week’s trip to Dallas, as I knew I’d be spending a lot of time on my feet, and thank goodness I did. They provided the extra height I was looking for; the cute, brown leather sandal look I was going for; and the comfort I so desperately needed. Zappos also got them to me in record time with its fast & free shipping. (Love the company’s amazing customer service as well as its shipping and return policies.) A pregnant procrastinator’s dream!
In Dallas, I truly didn’t have the time or energy to change my shoes on the last day, and I loved that my Børn Cindies were able to take me from event to event all day long. (They looked adorable with my outfit, too!) And yesterday, same thing. They accompanied me on our Noodle walk, to the doctor’s office, while shopping, out to lunch, and back home for the master bedroom move-in, and zero problems. (We’re not fully moved in yet, and there’s still quite a bit of decorating to do… but I think we’re sleeping in our bed tonight. Only took eight months!)
If you’re a busy, on-the-go girl who doesn’t want to sacrifice comfort for style, browse the wide array of Børn shoes available at Zappos. (So many great options for spring and summer!) And be sure to check beck soon, as I’ll be sharing photos of the master bedroom–including the completed flooring and paint jobs! So exciting.

Good luck with the glucose test, I did not pass with either of my boys and I was devastated because who wants gestational diabetes, I followed the rules to a tee and only gained 20 pounds with my first and 11 with my second. However, after I gave birth I ate everything I couldn’t eat while pregnant (Portillo’s choc cake, ice cream & more cake) and gained weight after my pregnancies, ha!!!
Did you really?! Oh no. I’m SO sorry. I find out on Friday and I’m pretty nervous. I feel like every time I go in for my monthly appointment, another thing comes up that causes me to worry. Stress!
Did they put you on a strict diet after your diagnosis? Did you have to take medication?
Thanks so much, Sara! Glad you’re eating all the cake and ice cream now hehe. :)
xoxo!
I had to test my blood 4 times a day and very strict diet but no meds thank goodness. As you are reading this you have gotten your results and I hope you passed:) Have a great time at the beach….
