Things are slowly starting to come together on Little Home in the City’s top floor. Yesterday, we had the walls painted, and I can’t get over the difference it’s made! We went with Benjamin Moore “Gray Owl” lightened by 50 percent, and we’re so happy with it. No more yellow!
Mitch and I are notorious for making poor paint color decisions–let us not forget the “baby puke” hue we went with for our East Village walls–so we ended up using Pinterest for guidance. This was the photo that sealed the deal. ;) And this one. They’re both from the same blog post, haha.
Side note: If you live in Chicago, I highly recommend Super Brush Painting, which Jess, Mitch and I found on Craigslist. Luke, the owner, is fantastic. He’s quick and very affordable, too. I mean, $320 for the living room, dining room, kitchen, stairs and office?! Unreal. His email is superbrushpainting@gmail.com, and his phone number is 847-668-6478.
We’ve also started to furnish and decorate with the help of Pier 1 Imports. Of course, we still have quite a way to go. Our first rug arrives tonight; the second one sometime soon. The new couches are slated for delivery next week, the farmhouse table (which Mitch built!) needs to be transported from my in-laws’ lake house, the accent chair and ottoman arrive on Saturday, and we need to hang artwork.
But I wouldn’t be happier with the top floor’s development! While it’ll likely be a few months before we get our master bedroom and bathroom back, focusing on the top floor has been a great distraction from the flood. :)
Anyway, here’s a peek at some of the progress:
Temporary table; our huge farmhouse table (which Mitch built!) arrives soon. :) It looks like this, except without the support beam.

Its really looking great! Love the nautical color scheme. Shortly after I read your flood post I too had water damage to my place. Thanks for your honesty and for sharing your experience.
