Recently, I wrote a post about preppy “investment” bedding. Today, though, I’d like to focus on preppy bedding that looks like a million bucks yet is affordable, too!
Every now and then, I like to look at my readers’ demographics. I’m not entirely sure how accurate Google Analytics is in recording this data since I’m not the most technologically savvy girl. 😂 But I love that it reports that as a whole, you guys come from all over the place and are lots of different ages–and therefore you’re in many different life phases, too. We have gals in high school and college, gals in their 20s, and then gals in almost every decade after that as well. Heck, we even have a guy or two who surfaces every once in a while! I’m assuming they’re you, Dad and Chase, and I love you for that. 😉 (Chase is my cousin, though basically a brother.)
But yes: that’s why I think it’s important to feature products for different budgets, and I definitely want to do more of that here on the blog going forward. In style, too! When I feature a dress, for example, I’d love to feature two or three similar ones at different price points. Remember how the magazine Lucky (#RIP) used to do this? “Splurge vs. Save,” I think it was called. I LOVED that. Thoughts?
Anyway, when I proposed the idea to The Company Store, they were really excited about it, too! So we teamed up for our monthly post to focus on just that: Save.
As I was browsing their site, I was all heart eyes the moment I saw the Awning Stripe bedding you see in these pics. And considering both how gorgeous it is and the quality of The Company Store, it’s quite the steal. With code “FRIENDS19,” the duvet cover ranges from only $67 to $103 depending on the size! Winner.
Let’s take a look:

Obsessed. Listen, I realize that I switch out my bedding relatively often, but I love how doing so is a comparatively affordable way to totally change or improve the look of a room without adding or replacing furniture or decor. Doesn’t the Awning Stripe bedding give the room a more “completed” feel, too? (This is the “before,” btw.) It also really reminds me of summer back on the East Coast, which is a theme I love bringing into my home here in Chicago. :)
I should also mention that the striped bedding is made out of a Jersey material that’s super soft and, in my experience, wrinkle-resistant! When I first took it out of the packaging, I was very surprised to see that it needed minimal–if any–ironing. And I had the same findings after laundering and drying with wrinkle-reducing dryer sheets. Pretty great.
While this is a little thing, I also love that the cover has corner ties that attach to the duvet insert so everything stays in place. Mitch is quite the “active sleeper,” for lack of a better phrase, and were it not for the existence of these things, our duvet insert would be bunched in a ball within the cover every morning. With the ties, though, it’s no longer a problem!
Side note: Sleep with a partner who (unintentionally, of course) steals covers in the middle of the night? (Hi! I’m the covers-stealer in this situation.) Go for this oversized comforter. It still fits in standard duvet cover sizes, but it completely fills them, leaving you with no extra fabric. Much nicer, and no one ends up with a side of the duvet that isn’t “filled.”
Oh! And isn’t the embroidered bicycle pillow the cutest? It reminds me of visiting my fam on Nantucket, so it was a must!
Next, I’d like to show you how changing out the sheets and pillow cases transformed the look of the bed:
Switch it up
Unless you’re an organizational guru, I feel like everyone needs at least two sets of sheets: one that’s on the bed and one that’s in the wash. (If you’re better at staying on top of laundry, teach me your ways!) So I like to have one classic white set–these Flannel Lace Sheets and Pillowcases and the Basket-Weave Euro Shams are what we’ve been using lately–and then one fun, patterned set: in this case, the Ashby Floral Fitted Sheet, Top Sheet, Pillow Cases and Euro Shams. They’re linen, and therefore perfect for the warmer days we’ve just started experiencing in Chicago! And while I normally go for everything blue, I’m a huge fan of how they bring some other colors into the room. They’re certainly sunny and happy!
Two other products I added to this scene were the “Enjoy” Pillow and the Softest Fleece Throw Blanket. The bench looked a bit bare without an accent pillow, and I loved the preppy piping on this navy one. And one of my favorite activities at this point in my pregnancy is retreating downstairs mid-day for an hour-long nap, haha. I prefer not to get under the covers for it so I don’t have to completely make the bed instead, and this fleece throw blanket really is the softest one I’ve ever owned! I pretty much instantly pass out when I’m wrapped up in it. ;)
The rest of the room
I’d love to tell you that I ran with all your (AWESOME) advice on how to finish our master bedroom from this post, but alas: I had to hit pause on some of it. I did, however, do a good bit: I changed out the rugs, got rid of the mirror and clothing rack, moved the smaller lamps to my dresser and got bigger ones for the nightstands, did away with some of the smaller pieces of artwork, and brought a chair down from the living room.
As much as I loved the other ideas–like replacing the frame over the bed with something larger and longer, investing in artwork for the super long wall, hanging wallpaper, and getting chairs to create a sitting room area–I decided against doing so for the time being because I don’t know how much longer we’ll be in our home.
That said, your advice is definitely in my mind, and I’ll be implementing it in the near future, whether we’re here or elsewhere!
THANK YOU! :)
