Mitch here!

I’m a Chicago winter apologist. I prefer to think of this whole thing as a “cold spell” or a “rough go” or whatever. I mean, it’s cold today, but it wasn’t like this when I was a kid. I didn’t wear two coats when I was a kid. No way!

But I wear two coats now and occasionally I wear three. Chicago is a freakin’ disaster zone if I’m being honest. It’s so cold here that you feel it inside. Inside your home, inside your body. You can’t escape it.

But not on this day! A couple days ago, we experienced a sweet, sweet escape. It was almost 60 degrees! I didn’t wear socks; I didn’t wear a sweatshirt; I didn’t even wear underwear!

While I’m on the topic, why do we talk temperatures “by the high”?

“Did you hear it’s going to be 60 degrees tomorrow?!”

No it will not be 60 degrees. It will hit 60 for about two minutes at 1 pm when everyone is stuck at work, and for the rest of the day, we’re lookin’ at 18 degrees with 100 mile-per-hour wind gusts. Enjoy!

We did, however, experience this weird near-60-degree high. Despite the snow on the ground and Emma’s rosy hue, it’s like 58 degrees in these pics. So we ran to the playground, even though the snow had just started melting. Yikes; that last sentence is depressing.

But it was great!

Today I’m here to talk about Kelly’s outfit, as usual. 😂 And not just the fact that she makes skinny jeans look baggy. She’s got the striped sweater (also hereJ.Crew version here) going, the whole jean situation happening, and the gigantic fur lined boots (Also here and here) that look like they came from a natural history museum, which is apparently very in right now. Kelly is the kind of person that makes going to the park fashionable. I’ll just say there is a reason I’m only in one of these pictures…

Noodle, of course, is naked.

And little Emma was rocking her yellow Hunters! She loves those boots. When we have guests over, Emma runs into her room and brings out her Hunters to show ’em off. Also, thank goodness for Vineyard Vines and their kids clothes. (Huge sale right now, btw. Use code “WHALE50” to take 50 percent off the sale. I can’t believe I just typed that. Who am I?) Dressing a squirmy little girl is tough, but I know if I can grab a Vineyard Vines sweater and some jeans, I have a pretty good chance of passing the mommy inspection.

Except tights aren’t pants, guys.

Our break from winter didn’t last long. Fifteen minutes after these pictures were taken, it started drizzling and then raining and then storming. The temperatures then dropped back into the teens and then it snowed two inches and we all huddled under a blanket.

But at least we got out when we had a chance!

Mitch out!
