^ This photo was taken on laundry day, which is why Emma’s wearing her Fourth of July outfit a little early. ;) But don’t they look adorable, and totally ready for the Fourth?! (I think her bubble is sold out, but I love this similar outfit!)
It’s been a crazy week!
Before I get to that, though, let’s talk about the below photos. If you haven’t heard of FabFitFun yet, it’s it’s a subscription box that comes out once per season and includes $200 worth of full-sized fashion, beauty, fitness and lifestyle products for $49.99. The company recently sent us its summer box, and I’ve been loving it! (Emma’s been loving the packaging.)
Here’s what was inside this month’s box: Michael Stars Ruana, BKR “Little” Water Bottle, Cargo Picture Perfect Highlighter in Bronze, Juice Beauty Smoothing Eye Concentrate, Kris Nations Mystic Bar Necklace, Eau Thermale Avene Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+, Salted Himalayan Pink Salt Kit, and Way of Will Soothe and Cool Massage Oil.
My favorite was probably the ruana, which can be worn as a scarf, sarong or shawl. It’s perfect for me, since I love the beach but am pretty conservative and burn very easily! But then there was the BKR glass water bottle, which has definitely made the biggest difference in my life. I know haven’t been drinking enough water during my first year of motherhood, and I’m determined to change that this summer! I also loved the Cargo Picture Perfect Highlighter; I don’t tan easily, but this gives me a great summer glow.
If you’d like to give FabFitFun a try, use code “INTHECITY” for $10 off your first box!

Personal
Mitch’s summer break began on Tuesday at 4 p.m., and we went to the Cubs game to celebrate on Wednesday. (More on that below!) Thursday, though, was my first full work day in a long, long time. I won’t lie: I was pretty overwhelmed when I sat down in the coffee shop, but I’m trying my best to be kind to myself. I’ve decided that I need to be realistic, and “assign” myself a manageable amount of work on these days. I’ll eventually feel caught up, but I can’t expect myself to catch up on a year in a single week. :) Feels good to get started, and to make a little progress!
Emma
Emma had a rough week. A zillion red spots appeared all over her on Tuesday, right when Mitch arrived home from his last day of work. (Poor Mitch, haha.) We called our pediatrician who said to come in first thing the following morning, but man: it was a rough night. I was so worried that I couldn’t sleep, and I was constantly checking on her. I assumed it was Hand, Foot and Mouth; the Chicken Pox; or Scabies… but they turned out to be hives–caused by either an allergic reaction to something or a virus. While we still haven’t been able to pinpoint what the possible allergen was (leading us to believe it was a virus), the hives went down dramatically yesterday. (Benadryl has been a godsend!) Sheesh. Worry, worry, worry. But I guess I’ll worry about her for the rest of my life. ;)
Mitch
Mitch left yesterday for another bachelor party, this time for one of our best friends, Dan, in northern Wisconsin. I’m bummed to be without him this weekend, but I’m really happy that he gets to spend some quality time with his high school buddies. It’s rare that he gets to see them, since they’re spread across the country! I can’t WAIT for Dan and Laura’s wedding in Denver next month, btw. I’m going to be a blubbering mess.
Family
Patrick and Kim found a house in New Orleans! It’s the CUTEST. It’s yellow, with a gorgeous front porch and the sweetest shutters. I can’t wait to visit this winter.
Friends
Tom and Kira arrived back from Italy earlier this week, and I’m seeing them tonight! I can’t wait to hear about Kira’s sister’s wedding and everything else they did while on their trip. I’ve been getting the itch to go to Europe lately, and I think I might be able to convince Mitch to book a trip this year. ;) We’d just need something easy and relaxing.
House
Our desk arrived! I’ll admit that we set it up in the living room for these pics, as the lighting is way better in there. But it’s going in our guest room, and I’m excited to have a designated work space again. Love the desk? Enter to win it here.
Chicago
I’ve been walking to Buck Town and Wicker Park! This is pretty adventurous for me, as it entails walking under the high way and over the Chicago River. But Emma and I pack everything we could possibly need, and we’ve been doing pretty well. Very fun to explore neighborhoods we don’t know too well!
Life in iPhone Photos…
Emma’s first Cubs game! I mentioned this on Instagram, but she threw up all over me during the fifth inning, haha. But we still had a GREAT time!
Helping out during the Great American Hydrangea Transplant Project. They’re thriving, btw. Thank you for all your advice! Emma’s dress is from Monograms on Webster in Lincoln Park.
Celebrating at Old Crow, a favorite restaurant in Wrigleyville.
Barcocina! I love summer in Chicago.
Daddy’s graduation. You were so good, little Emma!
Love this house in Lincoln Park. When can I move in?!
Summer in Lilly. ;) Here’s her shift dress.
Emma took the above three photos, and they crack me up AND impress me like crazy. ;)
The mayor speaking at graduation! Photo of our family with him to come. :)
