Our kids are itching to get back to school. Mitch and I have talked about this extensively and we’re both dumbfounded by it, haha. We distinctly remember sinking into a dark place when August rolled around, knowing our days of freedom were fleeting. Is school way more fun these days? OR ARE THE SCHOOL SUPPLIES JUST THAT MUCH BETTER?!
I’ll admit that school supplies always did get me a bit excited. Of course, I now need to quote the timeless You’ve Got Mail line:
“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”
I loved it all. The new pencils, sure, but also new loose leaf, new binders, new folders, new erasers, new markers—the newness made me feel like I could be a totally new student. One that breezed through her math and science classes, all because she had coordinating materials that were in tip-top shape.
😜
Similarly, Emma is all in. She’s most pumped about art supplies; like mother, like daughter, I suppose. But she’s also excited for at-home enrichment activities, from science to city planning and design. (Her class did a unit on architecture at the end of this past year, and she’s been hooked ever since!)
We get our school supplies from Walmart every year. The retailer has everything we’re looking for, the prices are low, and the shipping times are very quick.
And because the prices are so competitive, I love that I can let the girls pick out a few of those at-home enrichment activities. They’re wonderful for these slow summer months, and I know we’ll get a ton of use out of them during the school year, too!
Also, this is VERY cool: You can search by location/school name to find your child’s back-to-school supply list here. I tried it out for a bunch of Chicago schools, and nearly all of them came up! Amazing. (You can just click “add all items” and BOOM. You’re done!)
We placed a big order recently, but thus far the girls’ BTS favorites have been:
- Silly Scents Markers
- Twistables Colored Pencils
- Butterfly STEAM Kit
- City Escapes Coloring Book
- Watercolor Pencils
