I feel like it’s been so long since I actually had the time to sit down and write about what’s been going on in life. So often I’ll think to myself, “Hey! I should blog about that tonight!” But then, when I actually sit down to blog, I’ve completely forgotten what I wanted to tell you guys. I mean, it’s never anything earth-shatteringly important, but it happens all the time. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to make this little blog slightly more personal, and I don’t want to forget that. Even if it’s March, and most resolutions have flown out the window by now. ;)
So what’s been going on? I mentioned this a day or two ago, but I went down the shore a couple of weekends ago to hang with my parents and simply get away from hectic New York City life. So nice. It’s funny, though–every time that Mitch and I make the drive to Ocean City on a Friday afternoon after work, it’s a complete disaster. It often takes us over six hours to get there! (Heavy traffic all the way from the Bronx to the OC exit. Ugh.) But it’s always 100-percent worth it. There’s just nothing like stepping out of the car and smelling that salty sea air (something we like to call “ocean throw-up”). We grab sandwiches at the local WaWa, and then try as hard as we can to get everything from the car–bags, laundry, laptop, camera, etc.–into the beach house in one run. Because seriously: who wants to leave the house once you’re finally in there?! You’re just so excited to be there that going back to the car seems absolutely absurd!
Anyway, I wore this beautiful Maggy London floral dress the following day, which was warm and sunny for once. (#miracle) My parents, Mitch and I had breakfast at Uncle Bill’s Pancake House, ate lunch at Manco and Manco’s, shopped on the boardwalk, and then drove down to Cape May to walk around town and order lobsters at the Ugly Mug, one of our favorite local establishments. (Anyone else just eat a ton while with the parents?! Happens every time for us!)
The weekend was the perfect little vacation from everything that’s been on my mind. I’m a very lucky girl–I have a wonderful family, a loving husband and amazing friends–but lately I’ve been deeply unhappy with my job; my tiny, inconveniently located apartment; and this seemingly never-ending winter. (I know, I know. Waa-waa.) Lesson learned, though. Every once in a while, it’s important to take a break, and regroup. ;)
