Iron Mountain Hike

lululemon Swiftly Tech T-Shirt (Tank version here; long-sleeved version here. Sizing: If you’re new to lululemon, the sizing is a bit weird. I normally order a size small in other brands’ t-shirts, and I order a size 4 or 6 in lululemon. Wearing a size 6 here. Hope that helps!) / lululemon Align Leggings (Best and softest leggings on the market.) / Rothy’s Washable Sneakers (They were all I had in my suitcase. 😆) / MZ Wallace City Backpack (Also available via Bloomingdales.) / ACK Hat / Ray-Ban Sunglasses / Mitch’s Orvis Backpack / Mitch’s Favorite Polo T-Shirt

While in San Diego, we loved hiking Iron Mountain, which was recommended by the bride! (Thank you, Gabby. ♥️)

We went with Shawn (roommate from NYC and Mitch’s childhood best friend), and my brother- and sister-in-law, Charlie and Shirley. It probably took us between three and four hours, and the experience made me want to make hiking a regular part of our lives! Just look at how many cool places there are within driving distance of Chicago. :)

I’d say that the hike was perfect for beginners! Not a cake walk, per se, but also not so challenging that we felt intimidated. It was a great activity for a group, too. We largely stayed together but it wasn’t a big deal if a couple of people wanted to peel off and explore because visibility was great. (If you scroll down, you can see Charlie and Shirley peeled off at one point, and we could easily spot them in the hills!)

Of course, we didn’t have any hiking gear. 😜 But we made do, and got along just fine with what we had in our suitcases. I was very happy I’d packed a baseball hat, this lightweight travel backpack, and my favorite breathable workout tee that protects my shoulders from the sun. OH, and the best water bottle ever. Ran out just as we got to the bottom of the mountain. Life-saver!

I love how dry San Diego is. Yes, this day was hot, but it was a dry hot. And I found that that makes a big difference when hiking! I also found that it made for next to no allergies for me, which was absolutely lovely. ;)

This coming weekend is Mitch’s birthday, and the plan is to drive up to Chicago’s North Shore to walk the beaches with the girls. It’s no Iron Mountain, but it’s a favorite outdoorsy excursion and very doable with little kids. 😉
