Mitch here!

I hope you’re in the mood for a sappy Ode to Kelly post because today is Mother’s Day and I plan on writing one! I’m happy to report that Kelly is sleeping in, breakfast is in the oven, and there is nothing on the agenda. This woman deserves a day off and I happen to have one in store.

Kelly makes this mom job look easy. It doesn’t matter if she’s cleaning up a sloppy dinner mess, rolling around on the floor, or singing nursery rhymes; she’s in her happiest place when she’s with Emma. Kelly actually steals Emma from me on the way to the changing table and we end up in this little baby tug-of-war thing. It’s weird! Those two would spend every minute of the day together if possible.

Kelly’s energy towards motherhood inspires me to be a better dad. Like, how does she know the right answer to every weird baby situation that comes up? We’ve been parents for exactly the same amount of time.

I just think I might be the luckiest guy in the world. Not only do I have a beautiful and caring wife, but my daughter has a supremely dedicated and patient mom. Sometimes I find myself sitting back and watching the two of them play. It’s a beautiful thing. I’m really not sure how this happened to me.

Kelly and I have the same conversation every night after Emma goes to sleep. We round up all the cool stuff she did that day and talk about how lucky we are that she’s such a great kid. Honestly, she really is incredible. She doesn’t break the rules, she knows the alphabet, and she shares her snacks. She hands out hugs when needed. This toddler has never once been mean. She even says “please” and “thank you” at 20 months old! But I know that all of this isn’t an accident. Every single aspect of Emma’s personality is a direct reflection of her incredible mom.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you incredible moms out there. Now go back to sleep!

Mitch. Out!
