Trips to see family and friends can be chaotic. What can you do, right? When we were New Yorkers, visiting Mitch’s family in Illinois understandably included a lot of racing around to fit in as many visits with loved ones as possible. And now that we’re Chicagoans, there’s a whole lot of racing around when we go back to the East Coast to visit my family. Don’t get me wrong: I love packing in as much as we can into our trips home. There’s simply nothing like real-life “face time” with your favorite people. But it can be a bit stressful at times! And I’ve been known to crack on a few occasions.

Anyway, during my last trip back to New York, I decided that I was going to chill out with the chaos that usually surrounds my visits, and take some time to “steal a moment” for myself. So I spent the afternoon walking around the West Village, the Lower East Side, SoHo and Tribeca, snapping photos and wandering in and out of stores. (And, if we’re being honest here, brushing away a few tears. Such happy memories!) I even had a nice, long, relaxing lunch with my good friend Mandi. :) Later that evening, I met my dad for dinner at Del Posto, and then attended the Seriously Distracted launch party at 1 Oak, right around the corner, with my super hip and stylish aunt.

The event, presented by the zero-calorie fruitwater, was such a blast. First of all, it was so fun to have Auntie-M by my side. (Yes; I have an Auntie-M!) We chatted with a few other partygoers I knew through blogging, sipped delicious black raspberry and orange mango fruitwater cocktails, and watched the Seriously Distracted premiere. Watch the series here! (Be sure to tune in on Tuesdays to catch new episodes, too.) What a riot. Amy Sedaris is in it!

My favorite episode is the third one, in which one of the main characters gets followed by James Franco on Instagram. It’s funny–a couple of years ago I had absolutely no interest in Instagram. Now, though? Goodness. Insta–along with other social media platforms–are such a big part of my day, both professionally and personally. While I’ve never had someone legitimately famous follow me, I kind of lost my mind when Liz Eswein of @newyorkcity followed Noodle, haha. So I could kind of relate to the excitement. ;) But back to the show: I love the characters’ office space and their outfits, as well as how the show focuses on stealing moments in pop culture. I also love that fruitwater encourages busy women to steal more moments for themselves!

All in all, it was the perfect day–and night. I took time for myself, stopped rushing around like I almost always do, and let loose. And it taught me something important: while I might not always be able to reserve huge chunks for myself like I did that day in New York, I can certainly find slivers of time here or there. No matter how busy or on-the-go I am!

Do you sometimes feel like life is just too darn hectic, too? fruitwater wants to hear what you’re doing to steal a moment for yourself every once in a while. The best part is that there’s a $1,000 prize that could go to your next “stolen moment”! To enter, all you have to do is submit a photo via Instagram that shows the world how you make the most of your day by stealing a moment for yourself. The only eligibility requirements are that you follow fruitwater on Instagram at @fruitwaterbev and include hashtags #stealamomentweeps and #fruitwater. :) Easy, right?!

Good luck, and be sure to check out all of fruitwater’s tasy drinks here. :)
