We’ve had two snow days in a row here in Chicago, and it’s been just what we needed to lift our spirits! ❄️ We spent Saturday morning trying to build a snowman at the park—we failed 😜 but still had a ton of fun—and then Mitch somehow scored an individual igloo/greenhouse structure at Willow Room. We were all ecstatic! (And a bit disheveled, haha!)
Willow Room is one of our favorite restaurants in the city, and we now love them even more because of their 2020/2021 safety measures. A lot of Chicago restaurants have put up large tents, but we’re not comfortable with the idea at the moment since patrons typically dine together in them and numbers currently aren’t great. Willow Room, however, went the individual greenhouse route, and the structures are aired out and sanitized between uses. (This, of course, is obviously expensive for restaurants, and not all have the space for it. So I really do understand why many establishments have not been able to do it!)
In terms of the experience, it’s awesome. The servers are just so kind, and we love that they don’t even need to step inside! They can just pass everything through the door. As for warmth, all structure have space heaters, and they work surprisingly well. As you can see, we took our coats off! I would, however, recommend bundling up. (Back in the fall, we’d often have to turn the space heaters off.) And the food? It’s fantastic. Kids’ menu and high chairs, too!
Anyway, we’ve been coming here for years, and being able to visit every now and then has been a bright spot in 2020/2021; a reminder that we’ll hopefully be able to enjoy the city again in the somewhat near future. (Note: We always wear masks in public. We just jumped out of our igloo—note Lucy eating to the right—for a hot/cold minute to snap the above pic!)
