It’s been a while since Mitch and I actually had a Christmas tree. When we moved to Hoboken, we felt like things were super temporary, so we skipped it. And when we moved to our tiny apartment on Webster in Chicago, we simply didn’t have enough space for it. Last year, the flood had just occurred, and the house was under major construction, so we skipped it yet again. But this is our year! We’re settled in our forever home, construction is over, we have the perfect little spot for it, and we have Emma. How could we not get a tree?!
While the prices are typically better at the big box stores, Mitch and I decided that we wanted to start a tradition of picking out our tree from a nearby church’s little “tree farm” every year. We did it this past Saturday, and we loved that it was walkable from our place and that we were supporting local businesses by shopping there. And how magical does the little “tree farm” look?! While I love city life, it’s pretty nice to escape it every once in a while, even if we’re just visiting parks and Christmas tree “farms.” ;)
As for my attire, I finally found the tub with all my old flannels in it! (It was hidden in the basement, and I kid you not: It took me a solid hour to locate it, haha. Definitely need to work on organizing that space once the holidays are over!) I paired one of ’em with a cozy vest, and I also wore my new Cluse watch, which added the perfect bit of sparkle to my otherwise rustic holiday outfit. ;) As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’m not exactly piling on the jewelry these days, as Emma tends to pull on it and I’m going for a simpler lifestyle. But I love finding pieces–like the dainty Minuit Metallic Watch (only 33mm!)–that can tie my looks together while also taking me from day to night. I mean, I don’t even need to wear a bracelet when I have it on. Again, the perfect amount of sparkle… and the perfect amount of functionality!
If you haven’t heard of Cluse yet, the brand’s watches make the perfect holiday gifts. So many of them are priced under $100, yet they’re really well-made and absolutely stunning. I’m a huge fan of the 33m style–the gold, green velvet, and light pink being my faves–and I love that the straps are interchangeable. After the holidays, I’ll definitely be switching to the brown strap!
Anyway, Mitch and I accidentally forgot all our ornaments back on the East Coast at my parents. I know, I know. So tonight, we’re either off to buy popcorn, cranberries and string… or some sort of an “ornament value pack.” ;) Wish us luck! And then we’re cozying up by the fire to watch some of our favorite holiday movies as a family. So excited!
Oh: do you have any really special holiday traditions you think we should do with Emma? We’re hoping to make this year extra magical! Thanks in advance!

My Mom would buy a special ornament each year to add to the tree for my brother and myself. When we left home our Mom gave us our ornaments. It is a box full of wonderful memories for our own tree.
Emma’s little bear hat is just WAY too cute! My two favorite traditions I did with my mom growing up were to make her Christmas Bark recipe together (I just tried it for the first time on my own on Monday!) and giving it out in little bags to all of our family, friends, neighbors, and people who deserved a little bit of a Christmas tip!
The other started when we were around 3 or 4, and we’d make special “reindeer food” bags filled with sparkly confetti and dry oats to sprinkle on the front porch for the reindeer. Might be more fun in a few years, but it’s a good one!

Every Christmas Eve I give my children a classic book to add to their library and a Hallmark keepsake ornament they collect.
AH! Looks like such a fun trip!
Aww these are the cutest! And your tree-picking outfit is perfection.
