As you guys know, I’m trying really hard to break out of my comfort zone this season and wear neutrals and black more often.
I’ve had my eyes on a pair of black loafers for the longest time, but I was a bit nervous that I wouldn’t get very much wear out of them. Wrong. While I love my brown loafers, black loafers–especially these patent ones–totally class up casual outfits and give ’em that extra pop. Oh, and did I mention that they’re insanely comfortable and don’t rub? Cute shoes that I can actually wear while running around the city and/or mommy-ing? That’s pretty spectacular!
And it’s official: I’m sweater vest-obsessed this year. This one from Johnston & Murphy, though, is my absolute favorite. Because I’m so pale and have blonde hair, I always thought I’d look pretty awful in tans and browns. But I have to say: a little bit of blush goes a long way! And I’m so glad I took the chance on this vest, because it’s on constant rotation these days. I love the hood and the pockets, and that it’s the perfect transitional piece for fall. With it, I can totally get away with wearing my thinner tops and blouses for a while longer.
Anyway, check out my favorite clothing and shoes from Johnston & Murphy below. I’ve been a huge fan of the company’s loafers for what seems like forever, but I adore the clothing, too. Believe me: the investment is worth it. :) The brand’s quality is amazing and lasts for years!

The Adored Life
Awww thank you! I’m normally a hot mess, but every once in a while I get it together. ;)
Trying so hard to incorporate more blacks, whites, and neutrals into my wardrobe too! I love color so much, it’s been really hard. Haha! But I’m loving how you mixed things up here. Thinking I need to try this outfit too! (P.S. – I’m a little sweater vest obsessed this season too :) )

Thank you so much, Sarah! These are super comfy and they quality is off the charts!! xoxo, Girl!
Your blog, your style, your choice, etc… but as a reader I have to say I would be more apt to support more traditional, typical ‘preppy’ products, styles, etc.
How is this not traditional?! Stripes are always a classic!
Stripes yes– but the black and neutrals look– that is everywhere else. I had always liked this blog for the fact that there were colors.
While I don’t wear black and neutrals every day, I think it’s fun to mix up my style once in a while! While I definitely still gravitate to preppier styles, Chicago (and my wonderful girlfriends) have influenced me. I love trying new things, but thanks for your feedback!
Ok…I caved. I have a huge collection of sailor stripes, mostly around navy, but was recently in London and found a black and cream one from Joules.
Now I have to figure out how to mix it in. There is actually quite a bit of black in the red plaid accessories I have but I haven’T felt comfortable mixing plaids and stripes for myself. (The look looks good on others.)
I, too, am a huge loafers fan! I get lots of compliments on my favorite gold pair, which are from Gap several years ago! If only I could find a way for my dachshund to wear loafers…
This vest is such a cute layering piece!
