HUGE NEWS, FRIENDS.
J.Crew Mercantile–an affordable line of classic clothing–is now available on Amazon, and everything is Prime-eligible! Which means that if you do have Amazon Prime, your order will arrive on your doorstep within two days.
I don’t know about you guys, but our family depends on Amazon so much. From last-minute gifts and party supplies to household goods and outfits, Amazon helps us come off as people who have it together. (Spoiler: we do not! 😉) And now that J.Crew Mercantile is carried there? Boom. It’s truly a one-stop shop for all our needs.
If you’re not yet familiar with J.Crew Mercantile, I’d say it has a focus on the timeless staples–the stuff we wear and reply on most, and the stuff that won’t be going out of style anytime soon. And today, I’m teaming up with Amazon to show you how I’ve styled my all-time favorite chambray shirt three ways. :)
Before I start, though, I really can’t stress how awesome this button-down is. I probably own five chambray shirts (I know, I know), and this is by far the best one. It’s incredibly soft and not too thick, making it the perfect layering piece, and it’s very flattering. I will say, however, that it runs slightly on the larger side. I went down one size.
Onward!
3 Preppy Ways to Style a Chambray Shirt
Chambray Shirt (Also love this one!) / Long-Sleeved Striped Tee / Puffer Vest / Leopard Pumps / Black Quilted Bag
Layered with a puffer vest and striped tee
Long-Sleeved Striped Tee: This has been one of my most-worn tops this season! I probably need to pick up a second, as I can’t get it laundered quickly enough, haha. It’s great, though. It features a longer cut, which is very flattering, and it’s softer than any other striped tee I own. In these photos, I layered the chambray shirt and an olive green puffer vest over it, and I love the look!
Sizing: it’s form-fitting, so I ordered one size up. Keep in mind that I like my tops on the looser side, though, so I’d probably order your normal size.
Puffer Vest: Another classic that you’ll have forever. I keep a quilted vest in my hallway closet throughout the fall and winter; I love it because it’s almost like wearing a puffer coat indoors but it’s socially acceptable. ;)
Sizing: I’d recommend going one size down.
Chambray Shirt (Also love this one!) / Quilted Field Jacket (Love the non-quilted one, too!) / Brown Horsebit Loafers (See other colors here.) / Similar Bag / Mitch’s Striped Crewneck Sweater / Mitch’s Jeans
With a utility jacket and brown leather accessories
Quilted Field Jacket: Swoon, right?! I’m obsessed. I’ve had the classic Field Jacket for many years now, but as a Chicagoan, the quilted, warmer version is a lifesaver. It features a soft and movable fabric, and runs totally TTS. It also has a ton of pockets, which is great for this mom-on-the-go. LOVE.
Non-Quilted Utility Jacket: Here’s the original style. Again, it’s a classic, and absolutely perfect for fall weather. Whereas you might feel a little “over-puffed” wearing a chunky sweater with the quilted version, the non-quilted one allows for a slimmer look when layering. It’s also great for girls who live in warmer climates!
Chambray Shirt (Also love this one!) / Crewneck Sweater / Schoolboy Blazer / Black Pumps Here and Here
With a blazer, layered under a sweater
Schoolboy Blazer: In general, this has been my go-to fall look for as long as I can remember. I think I originally saw the outfit on Pinterest, and I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve worn a version of it since then! The combo you see in the above photos would be perfect for work and happy hour–but switch out the color of the blazer and sweater, and you have a much more casual–but still polished–feel.
I’ve reviewed the Schoolboy Blazer a few times on the blog, but it’s timeless, and every girl should have one in her closet. In the fall, I often wear it in place of a jacket, and it works great!
Sizing: I’d go one size up so you can freely move your shoulders and be able to layer.
Crewneck Sweater: A great basic, and an even better price. I can’t believe how many colors it comes in! Time to stock up, Ladies. ;)
Sizing: Order your normal size if you plan on layering; order one size down if you’re looking for a more tailored appearance.
