Right now, you can take 30-50% off almost everything at Abercrombie & Fitch and abercrombie kids, and an extra 20% off almost everything with code “HOLIDAYRUSH,” which is stackable!
If you’re a millennial like I am, you probably remember the moment that Abercrombie & Fitch caught your eye again—like, as an adult. It was a surreal moment for me; it conjured up memories of seventh-grade Kelly saving her hard-earned babysitting money to buy one of those shirts with Abercrombie & Fitch written down the arms in Garamond font. (I was so excited. Anyone else?!) But whoever’s in charge over there right now is a total genius. Because the company has risen through the ranks once again, and made its way into the hearts of not just their original customers, but also the children of their original customers. Because the stuff is great—for men, women and kids. Quality is high, prices are affordable, and styles are classic but also on-trend.
I placed my first abercrombie kids order last year, since Emma—age 7 at the time—was growing out of her kiddie clothing and starting to ask for “tween” stuff. I can’t even tell you how relieved I was to see that everything came in a size 5/6, too, as her younger sister Lucy would have had an epic meltdown if she couldn’t wear cool clothes, too. (Honestly, I get it! Lucy rocks her role as Younger Sis, and helps Emma in so many ways. But sometimes it’s hard when you forever just want to be two years older than you actually are.) So thank you, Abercrombie. I feel like someone in Corporate is a mom with a awesomely feisty Kindergartener too and she gets it.
You know, when my daughters were younger, I always assumed that when they got to this age, I would mourn the loss of adorable clothing adorned with Peter Pan collars and big bows. Instead, though, it’s been such a heartwarming and fun transition. This is girlhood. The years of choreographing dances to pop songs; sleepovers with your besties; chatting the minute you get home from school—albeit via FaceTime and not a landline. ;) It’s brought me back to the early 90s… when life was simple and fun and exciting and glittery. The Peter Pan Collar Era was really fun. But dare I say the Abercrombie Era is even more fun?!
I digress. THIS IS EMOTIONAL, GUYS. 😆 But before I get to our reviews, I want to thank Abercrombie—from the bottom of my heart—for our holiday card photos. I love them all so much that I honestly can’t choose! (And will likely make Carly choose for me.) I feel like because Emma and Lucy were wearing fun clothing they love, they were feelin’ themselves, and their awesome personalities shone through in the pics. They rocked it, and dare I say I’ve never experienced an easier Christmas card photo sesh with kids!
But let’s get to the reviews. Here’s what Emma and Lucy are loving from abercrombie kids’ winter collection:
“Ultra” Fur-Lined Puffers
Girls love fur. They love it. Here’s the problem, though: 90 percent of kids’ fur jackets feature the fur on the outside, not the inside. Which is quite dumb, if you ask my daughters. But that Abercrombie mom exec got it right here too, and she put the fur on the inside of the brand’s puffer jackets. It was SEVEN DEGREES in Chicago yesterday morning, and guess whose kids’ gleefully skipped into school chanting “cozy, cozy, cozy!” Mine. No complaining or crying. Friends, the system has been defeated.
There’s a long and short version of the “Ultra” parka, and both are fantastic. The short is great for everyday winter, while the long is essential for girls who live in places like Chicago and experience those seven-degree days on the reg.
Please note that Lucy (age 5) is wearing a size 7/8 so that she can wear the coat for a few years. She also loves that she’s able to cover her hands with the fur-lined sleeves for times when she cannot locate her mittens. Emma is 8 but wearing a size 10/11. It’s oversized in a good way, Emma says.
Houndstooth fleece jackets
You want it in your size, right? Ugh, same Girl, same. It’s really cute. The fleece is adorably cropped—though not too cropped—and the zipper is gold, which is such a little touch. And just like with the Ultra, Emma also loves that these sleeves are long enough that she can tuck her hands into them when she wants to go glove-less. (Getting this child to wear a hat and gloves is nearly impossible, so I love this feature as well!) The jacket comes in a pretty cream and taupe color, too.
Sequin skirts
Here’s why these sequin skirts are better than all the rest: the waistband is totally lined (as is the rest of the skirt), and not a single sequin ever touches their tummies. Which means no “I’M ITCHY!!!!!!!” declarations or demands to strip naked in public. My girls love the idea of sequins but are scarred from past experiences—yet they gave this skirt two thumbs up, and they plan on wearing it this weekend to a friend’s birthday party as well as during holiday festivities.
Preppy pink polo pullovers
When I took these out of the box, Emma and Lucy shrieked “SO PREPPY!” (Apparently the meaning of the word “preppy” has changed, haha, but in this case, the generations are aligned.) How cute are they?! They’re lined with a super cozy fleecey material so they can be worn on their own or over a tee or tank. The girls actually put this little outfit together on their own, and they nailed it, if you asked me.
Sequin jumpsuits
Gosh, I would wear this, too! Everything about this jumpsuit is precious, but I must say that the first thing the girls noted was that the sequins didn’t itch their arms. So that’s incredible! We’re going for a very pink Christmas theme this year, so the jumpsuit is also “very on brand,” as Emma says. ;)
Nirvana sweatshirts + cozy leggings
KIDS LOVE NIRVANA. No, not the band itself, haha. Just their smiley logo. And Abercrombie made a Nirvana smiley sweatshirt that isn’t offensively neon; it’s a lovely cream with silver sparkles—and it has the approval of both Mom and Daughters! Once again, this sweatshirt is lined with a cozy fleecey material, so it’s the first sweatshirt they grab out of their closets when it’s not in the hamper. (Constant rotation.) It also has thumb holes for added coziness! The flared leggings are ribbed and super soft—and a new taupe color was just released online. *Adds to cart.*
Fur jackets
And finally, these fur jackets are what we’re wearing to holiday events this year! They’re clearly off the charts in terms of comfort and coziness—I feel like that comes through in the photos, for sure—and they really elevate more formal outfits. I would recommend not sizing up, even if you’re like me and prefer to size up on everything to get an extra year or two of wear out of pieces. ;) We ended up exchanging for the girls’ normal sizes (5/6 and 9/10) and those were the perfect fit!
Thank you to Abercrombie & Fitch for collaborating on this post, and to you, for supporting the partnerships that keep Kelly in the City up and running!
