Mitch here!
I’m a Chicago Weather Denier, and this fall, I plan to ignore the chill for as long as possible like I always do. The plan is to slowly add layer upon layer, and I don’t care if I end up wearing 10 sweaters on top of each other; that parka is staying in the closet where it belongs! It’s like I’m experiencing the five stages of grief but in this case every stage is denial.
This week, Chicago experienced its first few “layering days,” so I sprinted to Nordstrom to grab a brand new El Cap Better Sweater from Patagonia. Getting a new Patagonia is a big deal for me as I plan to spend most of the next three seasons in this thing. Guys have it easy in the fall because a good pullover can cover up nearly any disheveled mess. The standard Mitch Outfit is a Patagonia, jeans and shoes (if I’m feeling fancy).

I’m also proud to announce that I’m also 100-percent responsible for Emma and Lucy’s adorable outfits in these pictures. Not only did I dress them in them (and successfully avoid blowouts and puke explosions until about five minutes after we took these pics) but I also found the outfits and purchased them without Kelly’s help! Look at me go!
Daddy’s Little Girl Picks
Both girls sleep late and they’re all smiles when they wake up. They’re just so flipping cute and I love getting them ready for the day. The issue is that Kelly LIVES for dressing her girls, and I’m totally clueless about kids’ clothes. Honestly, having Kelly pick out the outfits is absolutely the right call but this week I found myself spending A LOT of time looking at little girls clothes on Nordstrom. Not to sound bizarre, but it was kind of fun?
(Btw: We’re in New York right now, so Kelly won’t see this post until Monday. Do we think she’ll approve my little girls’ selects?! 😜)
This Boden Jersey Long Sleeve & Leggings set called to me. (In truth, I just know that my wife loves everything that comes from Boden, so I couldn’t fail.) I like a good clothing set as it totally prevents me from mismatching an outfit and being the laughing stock of the school drop-off fashion show. Even better, this set has a matching pattern on the pants and pockets so I can figure out what goes with what if I forget. It’s dad-proof.
I should note that Nordstrom itself makes things pretty dad-proof. The retailer is like a huge, fancy personal shopper. They carry only best brands so quality isn’t an issue, and they curate styles to help guys like me not look foolish. Nordstrom’s prices are always super competitive, too. Even better, Nordstrom is famous for having the best customer service in the world. Seriously, we studied Nordstrom’s customer service in business school. It’s unbelievable!
Regardless, I think we can all agree that I hit a grand slam with these outfits. There’s really no question about that. Thank you very much, and shoot me an email if you need any style advice because I’m always happy to offer wisdom to those who truly need me. (Mitch@kellyinthecity.com.)
