Anthropologie Somerset Dress Review

Anthropologie Somerset Dress (So many different Somerset dress varieties!) / Drag Diffusion Tote (Also love J.Crew’s new woven tote.) / Old J.Crew Suede Sandals (Newer version linked) / Sunglasses (But the Amazon version is just as good!)

I finally took the plunge and ordered the Anthropologie Somerset Dress, which has a cult following—and friends, it’s magic!

First, I should note that there is an entire Somerset line. So many options to choose from! But the OG is this one, which the company brings back in different colors and patterns every year. I almost ordered one last spring, but I’m so glad I waited because I think this is their best pattern yet!

A few things to know:

Fit + sizing

I would say that it fits true to size, but if you’re in between sizes, you probably want to size down. I am between an XS and small in most clothing, and went with the XS here; mostly due to the fact that the top portion of the dress is generous. This will work great for someone who is more blessed in that department than I am, but have no fear if you’re small-chested (34A) like I am. 😉 The bust has an invisible clasp that ensures you won’t flash the world if you lean over. And because the material is 100-percent cotton, it doesn’t droop. And the elastic waist cinches in three places (though not too tightly), which makes it incredibly flattering around the middle. Oh, and there are pockets! (Which hold and hide an iPhone no problem.) Finally, the dress is subtly tiered, which I just love.

Material

Once again, it’s 100-percent cotton. To be honest, I usually prefer my dresses to not be 100-percent cotton, as I’m not a great steamer—nor do I enjoy it. ;) But this dress comes out of the wash wrinkle-free. The pattern probably helps to disguise any wrinkles that could pop up while wearing the dress, too! Lucy sat on my lap for an hour on this night, for example, and when we got up, I didn’t notice any crinkling. That’s very helpful as a mom of young children. :)

It has pockets

I know I already mentioned this, but this is hella helpful as a mom, so it needs a second call-out. I love that I can stash my keys, phone, credit card and license—my only real essentials, IMO—and be good to go. I’m probably paranoid from an incident when my mom had her bag (and kind of her whole life) stolen, but I feel a lot safer with those things on my actual body, whether I’m traveling or out and about in Chicago!

It’s versatile

I totally plan on wearing this dress to at least one of my cousins’ upcoming weddings. (There are three!) Yet since it’s cotton, I think it works for far more casual occasions, too. I wore this to both lunch and dinner and didn’t feel overdressed at all.

There are tons of different Somerset styles

I had no idea! But there are a lot of different Somerset dresses, skirts and even pants to choose from. And to be honest, I love mine so much that I’m tempted! But for now, I’ll live vicariously through you. 😜
