Casual Preppy Christmas Outfit

Faux Leather Leggings (ADORE. I tried a bunch of pairs, and this is my favorite. Super comfy. They also come in velvet, which I also own. I took both in a size small, and they’re form fitting yet comfortable. I also hear that this pair from Spanx is awesome! They come in navy, too, which is fab. If you’re looking for a steal, this pair is under $30!) / Cashmere Sweater (Love it, but sizing is wonky. I’m wearing a size small here, and it’s STILL small. I wish I’d gone with the medium. I’d go up one size, if not two! Also have this similar cashmere crewneck and ADORE it. I think I actually like it a bit better than J.Crew’s version.) / Plaid Pumps (In red, here, on sale. Also love this pair and this pair, and Talbots is the queen of plaid Christmas shoes! …I mean?!) / Similar Red Coat / Faux Leather Tote (Only $48! Makes a great gift.) / Similar Plaid Scarves Here and Here

I’m taking it easy today! I pulled a lot of late nights over the last week due to the madness surrounding Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and I’m so excited to return to a normal “state of being.” :)

Of course, the madness never really stops for the Larkin fam, haha. Today, our kitchen countertops are being ripped out through Kira David Design (best designer ever–hire her!), and tomorrow, our cabinets are being painted white. I can’t believe we’re finally going to get that white kitchen we’ve always wanted! Obviously, a huge thanks goes out to Kira, who designed and orchestrated everything with the various contractors needed to pull something like this off. If you live in Chicago and have house projects to tackle, believe me: KDD is the way to go. Not only do the projects come out way better, there are fewer headaches and the bills are actually LOWER. (Shocking. I know. Always thought that hiring a designer would mean more $, but Kira is super savvy about savings.) Anyway, I’ll be sure to take “before” photos and do a whole reveal post. I can’t wait to share!

In other news:

  • I’m in full holiday mode. Fair warning: you’re basically going to be seeing holiday looks (meaning #plaidalldayeveryday) from now until December 25th. On the 26th, though, I promise that I’ll stop. ;)
  • I FOUND CHINOISERIE ORNAMENTS. You’re welcome, guys. Preppiest tree ever coming your way. I think Ballard has some, too, but they’re pricier.
  • Yesterday’s Nordstrom giveaway winner is Angela H.! Happy for you, Angela! I definitely want to do some additional giveaways; I’ll come up with a plan for that soon, haha.
  • All hail the camel cashmere sweater. I wear one on the reg, as it seems to go with everything–from leggings to jeans to skirts. I will say that the one I’m wearing here is fabulous yet a little off when it comes to sizing. I’m wearing a size small here, and I wish I’d gone with the medium. I’d go up one size, if not two! I also have this similar cashmere crewneck and ADORE it. I think I actually like it a bit better than J.Crew’s version.
  • Emma has started walking to the park. Like, we don’t even need to take the stroller. It’s both wonderful and also weird. Yes, it’s a little more stressful because she’ll sometimes veer the wrong way. And yes, she sometimes has a meltdown because she gets tired and we end up carrying her home. But it’s so cool! She’s a KID.
  • These are the best faux leather leggings in the world. And they also come in velvet, which I own as well, haha. I’ve tried way too many leather leggings on this year, but goodness. I can’t get over how comfy this pair is. (I’m wearing a size small here, for reference, and as you can see, they’re form-fitting!) I also hear that this pair from Spanx is awesome. They come in navy, too, which is right up my alley. If you’re looking for a steal, this pair of leather leggings is under $30!
  • Our home is a disaster right now. I chalk it up to having guests for a couple of weeks in a row while construction was going on and then being away for five days for Thanksgiving. But I’m looking forward to tidying up today and for our cleaning lady’s arrival tomorrow. (Last year, we decided to forgo some of our “going out” money in favor of hiring help. While it didn’t make financial sense before Baby for us, it’s made a big difference now that we’re parents.) Side note: Sadly, our cleaning lady only does our house and our neighbor’s house, and she’s not taking on any more clients because she works another job full-time. She knows, however, that the minute she wants to take on more, I’ll let my readers know! :) So sorry about that.
  • I have so many exciting plans for December! I’m headed to New York for a couple of days to see my family, and then my brother and sister-in-law arrive in Chicago for a week. After that, we’re all headed to their home in New Orleans for Christmas, and after that, we’re bakehouse-bound. I wonder what will become of the blog this month? 😂
  • I’m on the hunt for a modest New Year’s dress. Something below the knee and with sleeves. I KNOW. But I’m so cold all the time, and with age, I’ve realized that there’s truly no reason to suffer. I’d look strange in a skimpy dress anyway. ;) Still, I would like something sparkly or glittery or shiny. (Cue the Moana crab song.) Any suggestions, guys?!
