Hallelujah! I had a CRAZY work week, and I’m absolutely thrilled that it’s finally Friday. Some thoughts this morning:

  • This blog is about to go downhill quickly. I kid, I kid. But Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 6th, which means that it’ll be dark when Mitch gets home from work and therefore way fewer photos. We even battled the setting sun in today’s post; how will we ever handle it after Sunday?! Yet somehow we always find a way…
  • I’m wearing the coolest watch. It’s from Skagen, available at Macy’s, and it’s a hybrid smart watch. Though it totally doesn’t look like one, right?! The watch, which is unisex and allows for interchangeable bands, combines technology with classic design. (Love that leather band and classy navy face.) The best feature, in my opinion, is that you don’t need to charge it. Mitch has a smart watch and it’s always dying. Mine, though, doesn’t require plugging in. Ever. (Don’t you think it would make for the perfect holiday gift?!)
  • A little bit more: The Skagen Connected Hagen Hybrid Smartwatch features smartphone notifications (haptic vibrations notify you when a message is received); customizable link functionality (snap a photo, control music and track goals with a push of a button); auto updates for date and time (time zones, Daylight Saving Time and days of the month automatically update); and activity tracking (wirelessly track your steps, water intake and goals). All this, yet a gorgeous, classy design! I’m sold. (You can learn more about the watch and what it does by watching the videos on Macy’s website.) I’ve actually been using the watch to snap “down photos” on my phone as well as to play music on my long walks with Emma every day, and I’ve been amazed! This thing is functional.
  • We ran into the cutest puppy while snapping these pics the other day. His name is Oliver, and he’s literally three pounds. Isn’t he the cutest?! His owner is a sweet eighth grade student from our neighborhood. Wishing her the best as she applies to high school! (Such a stressful time for kids here.)
  •  I finally have a makeup routine. I have roughly 15 minutes to do my makeup and hair every morning, so it needs to be quick and easy. I know I’ve spoken about this before, but I SWEAR by this foundation and concealer, also available at Macy’s. I’d never been a Foundation Girl until this year, when someone recommended I try this stuff, and now I can’t believe that I once survived without it. I used to have to reapply my makeup all day; now I do it once and that’s IT. (Honestly: I’ve accidentally slept in the stuff on a few occasions, and it looked great the next morning, too. I also didn’t break out, which I normally do when I sleep in makeup!) What’s so amazing about the foundation is that it’s perfectly matte. Usually, whatever I put on my skin ends up giving me a shine. This stuff, though, looks just like skin. AH! I can’t recommend it enough. It’s also affordable.
  • I love these boots. Again, a Chicago Girl can never have too many pairs of winter boots, as it’s all we wear once the weather turns. These are incredibly flexible and easy to get on, and they’re lined with shearling. They’ve been great for colder fall days, but I can’t even imagine how fantastic they’re going to be in the snow. Oy. I need to move to Florida…
  • We celebrated three months with Emma yesterday. I know I’ve been dropping the ball with in-depth baby-related content, but I promise that I have a lot coming. :) For now, all I can say is that these last three months have been the best of my life, and it feels like I was born to be Emma’s mom. While my work/life balance isn’t where I want it to be right now, I remind myself daily that I am working hard for her. I can sleep when she’s a teenager, right?! ;)
  • As I mentioned earlier this week, our little family is planning to spend the weekend in downtown Chicago as well as out in Barrington. Any suggestions on what to do?! Remember: we’re no Chicago experts. We love getting new recommendations! Everyone experiences cities differently, and I’d love to see the Windy City through your eyes…
