It was over 80 degrees in New York City yesterday! Spring has finally arrived. Or maybe we skipped spring and went straight into summer. Whatever the case, I’m thrilled warmer days are here!

The one problem with 80+ degree weather is that I don’t have a working air conditioner in my classroom this year, which I’ve certainly mentioned before. Now, normally, I wouldn’t care. Mitch and I don’t have an air conditioner in our Hoboken apartment, either. But it’s kind of rough when you’re in a room with 32 eighth grade students for eight periods per day, especially when they’re coming from gym or recess! This is why skirts are going to be imperative during the fourth marking period!

Last night, Sammy and Paige (my adorable cousins) came to Hoboken to visit! Paige celebrated her birthday on Sunday, so the timing was great. Love seeing my family on or around their birthdays. We had a fantastic time shopping at Hoboken’s boutiques, and then we met Mitch at City Bistro, one of our favorite restaurants. (City Bistro offers a half-priced menu on Mondays. It’s incredible!) There, we were able to snag outside seating, which was perfect. I don’t know about you, but it’s been so long since I’ve been able to sit outside comfortably at a restaurant. And that’s pretty much my favorite thing to do in the city!

Right now, I’m super jealous of my cousins. Sammy just came home from college for the summer, and is hanging out with her family (and visiting me!) until she leaves for her summer job in Nantucket. Paige is completing her capstone project for her senior year of high school, which entails making cupcakes all day. (I’m pretty sure she has to learn the business side of running a bakery, too. ;)) Hanging out and cupcakes? Only two of my favorite things ever. ;) Anyway, it was great to see my girls!

This afternoon, Mitch and I are headed down to the Costco in Harlem to get lenses put in my new frames. I’m crazy blind, and need high-index lenses so that the glass isn’t three inches thick. The only problem is that these high-index lenses usually run anywhere from $300 to $600! But Costco charges $110. How amazing is that? So today we’re trying them out! (By the way, ordering frames from Amazon worked out! $100 for a pair of frames that New York City stores charge $250 for? Yes, please! They’re a bit crooked, but a couple of optometrists have told me it’s pretty common for glasses to arrive off-kilter. I’ll let you know if Costco is able to straighten them out!)

Over and out, fashionistas!
