Burberry Scarf / Bell Sleeve Top (Also love this one. You’ll see it in pink in an upcoming post! And we can’t forget this one.) / Rag & Bone Jeans (The black version of my favorite pair. Same cut; just as great! They just came out in white, too.) / Longchamp Tote (Definitely regretting the decision to monogram it. Ah, Younger Kelly, who monogrammed everything.) / Christian Louboutin Pumps (Or are they these? Remember: I did get mine through this life-changing event, haha. But if I were buying them, I’d probably go with a lower heel, like this pair or this pair offers.) / Kendra Scott Bracelet c/o

Goodness gracious, guys. Can we believe that it’s finally Friday?! I’m still pretty sick and overtired, but I’m beyond excited, as our little family is departing for the East Coast when Mitch gets home from work today. Tomorrow, my brothers, sister-in-law and Grammie will meet Emma for the first time. Cue the waterworks. I’m such the emotional crier.

Today is being spent organizing the house, tying up work-related loose ends, and packing bags for everyone. (Pray for me.) Typically, when I pack for long trips, I end up bringing SO much. I can’t help myself. But this trip is going to be different, because I feel like I’m slowly transitioning myself from owning a ton of stuff to owning only what I love.

It’s been somewhat of a difficult transition. ;) Like, it’s pretty nice to have lots of options to choose from, right? Over the last couple of years, though, I’ve realized that my ineffectiveness at pairing down my closet every so often was leaving me feeling overwhelmed. And as a result, I just wore the same stuff every day. Whatever sweaters were on top, whatever shoes were worn last, and whatever bags I could actually reach.

So silly.

I’ll admit that I’m far from where I want to be. ;) But lately I’ve been ruthless with getting rid of things. Mitch is awesome with selling stuff that has value (he actually pumps that earned money into the mortgage), some of it goes to his students and our families and friends, and the rest is donated. And I’m re-thinking how I look at my closet and “fashion.” I’m leaning more towards owning a few very nice bags, pairs of jeans, pairs of shoes, and accessories–things that don’t go out of style and will last a long time–and living a simpler life as a result.

Burberry Scarves

So let’s talk about the nicest scarf I’ve ever owned. It was an investment, for sure, but as with my Louis Vuitton tote, my Burberry Jacket and my Stuart Weitzman boots, investment pieces are worth it for me. (I wrote about that here.) For example, I haven’t purchased a new bag since the LV came into my life. Mitch is thrilled! Haha.

But back to that scarf. It’s the classic Burberry Heritage Scarf, and I’ve admired it since college. (High school, maybe?) My dad got my mom one a long time ago, and she’s worn it for years, and she’ll totally agree that she doesn’t own very many other scarves because she always reaches for her Burberry. LOVE IT.

I went for the classic “Camel Check,” as that’s what Mom has and I want to be like her. ;) But I love it in “ash rose,” too. It’s 100-percent cashmere, and it feels like heaven on. And while I usually go for blanket scarves these days and wasn’t sure how I’d like the smaller size, I adore it. I mean, it’s Burberry. You don’t need a lot of it to make a statement! (Although I have to admit that I do love the larger Giant Check Print Wool & Silk ScarfBrit Sheer Mega Check Scarf, Giant Check Scarf and the Mulberry Silk Blend Travel Scarf. They’re just lighter-weight, and mine is much warmer and cozier for Chicago winters! (Maybe one day, though!)

Favorite Scarves

Of course, I bought my scarf through Nordstrom, as it’s the best retailer ever, haha, and carries the best accessories. No but seriously: I’ve always loved Nordstrom, but I think I really discovered its magic this year. Like I keep saying, the collection is just so perfectly curated. The company also offers free shipping and returns, and the best-ever customer service… so the ordering/returning process is always incredibly easy. Jess and I always say that we’re addicted! I mean, have you seen the Winter Guide?!

Anyway, my scarf is definitely coming back home with me. Shop my other favorite scarves from Nordstrom below! (WHAT A BEAUTY.) And hope you guys have a wonderful weekend. I’ll be back tomorrow with a fun post!

Also: a big round of applause for Mitch. These photos were snapped well after the sun had set, and he somehow managed to make them beautiful. Love you, Mitch. Thank you for being so supportive and awesomely creative, and for taking me out for a hot soup date last night. ;)

This post was sponsored by Nordstrom, but all opinions are my own. As always, thank you so, so much for supporting the partnerships that keep Kelly in the City up and running! I truly appreciate it, as you’re the reason I’m able to do what I love and spend the majority of my days with Emma. Thank you.
